    Hi guys,

I want to buy a DVD burner and have checked a few offerings to date (ranging from €100 to €400).

At present the only real difference I can see is that:
    a) most players will burn -R and + R (barely understand the difference - I prosue it's just another standard like VHS and BETAMAX was in it's day - am I correct or way off?)
    b) the read and burn speeds (so a x8 time DVD burner will be twice as fast as a x4 time DVD burner)

Is that it????? I just feel I missed something .... and that'll all run on my run of the mill Sony DVD player..

Thanks in advance for your help,

    The Duke : ))

DVD+R and DVD-R are just as you guessed, two different standards and most modern DVD RWs are able to record both. The read and write speeds are self explanatory. The following are 3 top of the range DVD RWs: NEC ND2500A 8x DVD±R/±RW, Pioneer DVR-107 8x DVD±RW and Pioneer DVR-A07 8x DVD±RW. I recently bought the NEC drive and have no complaints. You can even get firmware for it which upgrades it to approx the same speed of the Pioneer.

Hold down ALT and type 0177. Check out the following for more: http://www.coloryourprofyle.com/phade/alt.html.
Also you could use MS Word to insert symbol and then copy and paste or you could find it on an online shopping site and copy and paste it.
