2600 to 3200 oc problem

    Hey guys, I've just finished building my new rig;

    2600+ AMD Athlon XP [barton]
    1Gb 3200 ocz ram
    160Gb Samsung SpinPoint
    Radeon 9600xt 256Mb
    Epox EP8-RDA3+ MoBo
    -nForce2
    -Dual LAN
    -AC'97 sound
    -SATA raid
    LG DVD drive
    Asus 40/12/48x CD-RW
    No Floppy
    Cheiftech dragon black case
    WaterChill CPU-VGA-Chipset watercooling kit
    Fujistu Seimens 17" monitor 1600x1200
    Windows 200pro

Everything is fine and dandy except that the plan was to clock the cpu with the 200/400 fsb to be 1:1 with the ram and effectively be a 3200+, but whenever I up the fsb from 166 to 200, i get the Blue screen of death with either IRQ_NOT_LESS_EQUAL or PAGING_NON_PAGE_AREA, (errors not verbatim, thats the gist of them though), It works fine again when i switch it back down again.

I didnt anticipate windows having a problem with the process, maybe i'm missing something, the onboard SATA raid controller is enabled but I'm not using it, so there's that, but i dont see how it could be involved.

Thats all i have for now, I'm gonna have another go at it tomorrow, I'm just wondering if theres anything you can think of that can help.

[My core temp is a stable enough 37c, so i doubt its temp related.]

    Thanks

You should try running it @ 195FSB then it should work,

I have a 2500+ @ 195Fsb and stable but if its set to 200 then I get errors,

Also you may just be unluckly with your CPU some can over clock others cant,

    Thanks joePC

It's your MB it doesn't have a chipset that supports a 200Mhz FSB see if in the BIOS it gives you the option to increase the voltage to the chipset, that may help :dunno:.

If you've bought the 2500 recently then its probably locked, I read the last few batches cant be OC'd to 3200 speeds.

Yeah, I have a 2500 barton, get the non paged area error when running at 200 FSB, but if I put another notch on the CPU voltage it is perfect.
(your temps are fine, I run around 50 degrees even at stock settings.... (!)

I have asus a7n8x deluxe, so nforce 2 as well.

One thing that sticks out to me is he has an Xp2600+ barton and not an Xp2500+ one. So if he puts his FSB to 200mhz (400mhz when double pumped) then his chip will be running at 2300mhz ........

Problem unless you up the Vcore (in most cases). Did you try adjusting the Voltage for the CPU at all? Is your board capable of supporting 400mhz FSB?

You have to bear in mind that an Xp3200+ runs at 200x11 = 2200mhz ....
Your trying 200 x 11.5 = 2300mhz (im presuming its locked and you havent set the multi to 11)

Hey guys, sorry, kinda left the country for a while there.

Yeah, I've upped the vcore a few notches and it seems to be stable enough now, runnin error free at 3200+ speed, temp still in the 30's too:D

The chip may have been locked, seeing as changing the multiplier never did anything, the MoBo does handle 200mhz fsb though, that's why i bought it.

All is well, I'm off to do some benchmarking now:cool:
