Getting a piano tuned

    Hi
I just inherited a piano. Its pretty old (40-50 years) and hasn't been tuned in a long time, I'd guess at least 10 years. Any idea what it costs to get one tuned these days? Also, does anyone know anyone qualified to this in the Kildare/Offaly area that I might be able to contact?

    Thx

It really depends on where you get it done - in Dublin I have been quoted €80 but in Carlow as low as €50. If the piano is that old a simple tune may not suffice.

    why bother?

Cheers Rolo Tomasi. I'm a beginner at this stuff, but I read this morning that when a piano is way out they need two visits - the 1st is to get the tension of the strings close to normal so that when notes are being tuned they don't knock others out (similar to a guitar tremelo system I imagine).

Sorry if I offended you Mr. Meldrew but

    1. I have an 04 directory, which contains **** all useful info. Previous searches for a glazer and for tool hire in the vicinity of my town (Edenderry) have come up negative
so I don't bother with it.
    2. Its a bank hol so most places are shut.
    3. Most people here are pretty knowledgeable, and actually don't mind sharing information when requested.

There are a few dodgy piano tuners knocking around, be careful, particularly if they seem cheap. There's a guy I've recommended before, he's Dublin based but will travel countrywide, no doubt for an extra cost though. Ability wise, this guy is excellent, there is a real art in tuning a piano and I've been impressed with his work.

He is Kevin Redmond, based in Killiney. Phone 01 2853792. (number from the Golden Pages...lol)
