Tell them you've no problem working with modern technology, and you've no intention of joining the CWU. They have to hire you ;)

The an post managment is to blame for no post.

I blame them entirely. They are tryin to force innocent workers to do sumthin they are untrained to do and stuff. How wud any of us like it if we were forced to try and handle dangerous acid which we weren't trained to do.

Its dangerous to have anyone working ANY machine which they are not trained to work on.

Maybe if they trained their staff now...

Question is wud u want the job where u get harrassed and suspended wit no pay cos u are safety concious...

    :-p

I havent read anywhere that its a safety issue.
And AFAIK they were already using the machines. But the union claims that was only on a trial basis.

    eh

akaik they weren't trained on it and i know sum1 who has been suspended and why wud they lie?!!

I really dunno what the whole deal is but i do think its the management going a bit overboard anyway.

    :-/

Since early yesterday workers have been refusing to carry out certain duties at the direction of their union.

However, the company claims they have been doing this work for the past year.

Yes operative word being the 'management claim'

They management claim that but they didn't have training or at least person i know didn't. But they were accused of being trained on it.

I dunno what's going on but i'm gonna trust me source rather than the media which at times can be biased.

Not a bad plan. I would do the same myself.

However I have read an article which explicitly quotes the union as saying they have been using the system for a number of months now "on a test basis". Unfortunately cant find an internet link to back this up so the above was the best i could come up with.

The problem stems back to the 3% wage increase the other public sector workers got a while back. A increase An-Post couldnt pay because of mismanagement. (should have been 50cents a stamp a long time ago).

Some sort of agreemant was made that once the new machinery was in place the wage increase would follow.

Again, the union has offically taken the stance that its members were asked to do sumthin they weren't trained to do and also that the disabled members of staff were rquired to do heavier work than was in their contract and stuff like that.

That machinery has been out there for quite a long time and hasn't been used or people trained on it due to mismanagement.

The pay increase i think came into it but it had nothing to do with current thing going on now because those people were suspended. They are quite willing to work but are not willing to do sumthing they are untrained to do. They didn't choose this.
