Prime Time just did a short piece on eircom's flotation tonight. Key points included..

Barrister Neil McCann, who is actively seeking further information on the Valentia purchase of eircom, reckons that in the days of the P&T, TE had a network which was the envy of Europe, not so anymore.

ESOT, who own 30% of eircom, aren't a workers co-op as in other cases, so new workers coming into eircom don't get to play. Only 60% of ESOT still work in eircom.

Paul McSweeney (president CPSU) conceded that Con Scanlan was in conflicting positions (as general secretary of ESOT ... is that not meant to be CWU?), and deputy chairman of eircom. The goal of reducing workers would be in interest of eircom, but not of ESOT.

They reckoned that ESOT stand to make a total of 40k each between exisitng payouts and payouts after IPO. They compared this to a potential payout of 150k 350 employess ICC did/are to get.

There is a repeat on Thurs (well Fri morn) at 2.35.. but I dunno if thats a repeat of tongiht's or Thursday nights.
