Do you use anything that requires 2Gb of RAM? Otherwise I'd go for the 896Mb of the fast stuff. More than enough for most purposes

    Depends on what you're doing:

If you're running an i86 machine for home use or gaming then 512Mb -> 1Gb of the fastest RAM possible is what you want.

If you're running a reasonably high load server then I'd say 1Gb -> 4Gb of reliable ECC RAM would be more important than the raw speed.

Once you go over 4Gb of RAM the i86 PCI bus addressing needs to be messed around with a _lot_ so it's a case of whether you really need the RAM or not. Other server architectures have less problems and hence benefit more.

So for 99% of non server cases the lesser amount of PC2700 is definitely better.
