Digital Audio Switchbox

Can anybody help me find a Digital Audio switchbox. I have searched thru dozens of websites and gone to all the usual stores like Peats and Maplins and I just cannot find what I'm looking for. Basically what I need is a switchbox that can handle 3 digital inputs and 1 digital output, all the outputs and input have to be coaxial. I have a 5.1 speaker system that only has 1 coaxial input and I have a dvd. a computer and a games console all with digital outputs. Actually the dvd and console also have optical outputs so a switchbox with optical inputs wouldn't be too bad as long as it had 1 coax input and 1 coax output.
Its a real pain having to disconnect and reconnect wires all the time.

    Anyone any ideas??

    Hi TheJaff,

You are right, coaxial digital switchers are pretty hard to come by. The only one I've used personally is the Kramer 6602, but it's a pro level product and costs about €550-€600, which is probably overboard for your requirements.

Alternatively, you could do the switching in optical as you suggested, and then convert the signal from the optical output of your switcher to SPDIF digital, which your speakers accepts. You mentioned though that 1 of the inputs has to coaxial digital. The way around this is to first convert the signal from coaxial to optical. This is a bit messy, but it would work fine.

Have a look at this page where you'll find all the goodies to do the job. The coax to optical converter is $24.95, optical switcher is $29.95 and optical to coax converter is $25.95. Total spend $80.85 (€65.49) plus P&P which is not that bad.

    Good luck!

    Robbie
