I don't know if this has already been posted but RTE are now doing test transmissions on the 252 LW frequency. Apparently the new service is to launch on Paddy's day!

Is it going to be a mix of 2FM & Radio1 or a whole new station?

From what I've read elsewhere it's going to be used to re-broadcast Radio 1

Yes its going to be a relay of RTE Radio 1.

2FM 612MW Athlone is going off the air next month, it has been inn existence since the 30's!! That'll be a sad day!

I would have preferred if they relayed 2FM on 252, or their original plan of a mixture of the 4 radio stations.

They are playing looped music at the mo, with test transmissions announcements in-between
