Hi, just wondering does anyone know what the 2 thick cables running across certain Galway 30 mph city roads (maybe other nationwide roads as well????) at the moment, anything to do with speed checks or monitoring car volumes?

Or am I just being paranoid

They are traffic counters for improving the sequencing of lights in the city. Of course, since half of every light sequece is taken up by idiots blocking junctiuons, there is little point to them.

They've replaced the lost looking guys with clipboards you could occasionally see standing around at major juctions during rush hour.
