Just wondering what peoples recommendations are, and where they can be purchased.

I'm looking for something in the 100eur range.

Check this out, http://ie.europe.creative.com/estore/product.asp?prod=260, only €59 and reviews are good enough.

I got one of these about a year ago from Creative. They're okay, the recordings are fine (I've seen better though) and you can compress the files to AVI using Vidomi or something. As esquier pointed out you need to replace your graphics card and use the one bundled with the package which is a drawback.

    I got one of these:

    €52.03

The TV tuner isn't worth a s**t but you can record from a SCART/Composite or S-Video cable.

Comes bundled with video editing software which is (eventually) quite good.

    And its cheap.
    Cheap is good.

What do you mean? Is it just extremely bad quality? Or is it just really hard to tune it in. I'd be using this to record stuff mainly, for DVD'ing, so is recorded quality good?

And whats the max capture resolution on it?

There is an antenna input on the card and a TV tuner - you can tune in to RTE or TV3 but the sound isn't good and the english stations aren't picked up at all.

There is also a video input (Co-Ax) and S-video.

I made up a cable to run the L/R audio from a scart lead into my sound card and video into the capture card. I use it as a VCR to record from the SKY box.

    The max resolution is, I think, 640 X 480.

The recording quality can be customised right up to DVD standard though i'm not certain whether its actually getting the full DVD quality or expanding the data to size. Its good enough that I can't see a difference on playback.

A quick google just informed me that 98 / ME are not able to run this thing. Win 2K does, with a few small kicks in the head to get it installed (Install video editing software before the card's driver). XP apparently kicks itself in the head and saves you the trouble.

Thats great thanks. I'll definately give this one a closer look, i saw it before but was a bit wary, as it was a helluva ot cheaper than other models. But all i need is one with decent capturing capabilities.
