    Big, and needed changes, imo.

    From: Digital Spy

    EXCLUSIVE: Confirmed: Sky entertainment reshuffle
12:36 GMT, Friday 12th March 2004 -- by Neil Wilkes
The Sky 'entertainment' section of the EPG will undergo a long-needed reshuffle on Tuesday, March 23, Digital Spy can confirm.

All of the affected channels - from Men and motors onwards - were given the option to move up the EPG or remain in their current positions. New channels such as FX and Sky Vegas Live have taken the latter option, but the majority will be rehoused.

Is UK Drama (UKTVDrama) being dumped?
    (currently on 152)

    edit:
*bah, ignore me till I learn to read. Moving to 146*

What's the betting that Sky mess this up when they change it over and that we see ITV2 for a while on the EPG. :D

Well overdue for the defragmentation of the EPG, not really a reshuffle as most of the channels are still in the same order on the EPG. Suppose we will all be seeing a lot more L!ve TV now as we select 214 to watch BBC1, oops :D.

Why dont sky use EPG numbers 001 to 100 seems a bit of a waste Why did sky start from 101 to 999

Wow, what a shuffle! Don't understand why some wanted to stay at the top of the EPG. I might acutally watch ITV2 and E4 more, now that it has moved away from all the drivel channels with less pages of channels to flick through.

It would be handy if channels started at 001. Not totally sure as to why it starts at 101, except for perhaps they thought it was easier in Teletext styleé

about time that gap in the 160's was used

A couple of arguments aganst having channels below 100

First off the lower slots would be considered "prime slots" (admititely this still goes on now but to amuch lesser extent) and channels could be squabbling over them

Secondly say you key in "12" on your remote. the box would have to make an annoying pause while it decided if you really meant "12" and not 120-129

I notice there's one space between BBC 2NI (170) and Game Network (172)
for the Irish EPG. I suppose the space is left for UTV in the future maybe ??

I may be over optimistic though :D

Funny, if Sky gave the facility to program your own personal EPG I'd remove the vast majority of the channels in the upper section of the Entertainment menu. When I first subscribed to Sky an Entertainment channel appeared to adhere to certain standards but I can't understand how Sky could drop their standards so low to carry some of the sh*te they call entertainment channels today.
I know we all want choice but I'm afraid when amateur channels which look as if they're broadcast from someones bedroom appear among that choice you begin to resent paying a subscription to sky. Can Sky not introduce some broadcasting standards for channels to be carried on their platform ?

Does anyone know what channels used to be "in the gaps"? I only remember two.

    151:
    154:
    157:
    160: BBC Choice
    163:
    164:
    166:
    169:
    170:
    172:
    175:
    178: Tara

I think almost everyone would agree with you, freetoair.

Unfortunately commerce (i.e. revenue) , rather than quality is
the criteria used on EPG placement.

Once the channels meet the ITC rules, they can be on the EPG, and Sky
will only too gladly charge for the privelege.

Its rare for me to post something in defence of $ky but..............
amateur channels which look as if they're broadcast from someones bedroom appear among that choice you begin to resent paying a subscription to sky

I think most of the channels you have in mind are actally FTA (take your card out and see which ones are still there) so you dont pay for them

I wish theyd update their postcode database reactivate all P2 cards with the correct region and ditch all the 22 varients of BBC1 and just have the appropriate region on 101. Those who want to watch BBC1 Scotland in Cornwall always have the other channels menu !

The radio channels could really do with a tidy up as well

    yes, very over-optimistic
slots in the EPG are assigned in groups of 3. have a look at the list on the first page of this thread. there's a few gaps in it eg. there's a gap of one after E4 and E4+1 etc.

I think they are trying to future proof the EPG by leaving gaps for future launches

See Biography has a DOG advertising their new position up on screen, its second move in the last few months

Surprised Nation 277 took up the offer to move as they have already changed the name from Game Nation to Nation 277 shortly after launch

If you think they're crap, don't watch them. Most of them are FTA anyway so they're not part of the package and even if they are, I'd see them more as extras rather then something you're really paying for. Sky wouldn't reduce your subscription if they removed all the crap channels so what's the big deal. Just avoid the crap.

As I'm sure you all know , there has been a change in the Sky EPG , BBC 1+2 , E4 .

Does anyone know why these channels were changed ?
