Loved the first series, my dvd never makes it as far as its case and have been trying to convince various mates and after a few pints strangers of its pure genius. Any thoughts on the new series, started last nite on c4 ???

I don't have the dvd's but always made time for it on telly...

I thought the new series last night was lacking in the usual goodness, had some great moments, for instance, I thought the guy from Spaced (name anyone?) does David Brent's 'The Office' type character better, and the loose brick between the two shops was a funnay, "Look at him, he's getting back up, I knew he'd do that".

New viewers to Black Books wouldn't be hooked after that one tho, they've done better in the past, however, I won't be not watching :)

Totally agree, I find the blessed BB is, like all of the greatest pleasures in life, not completely satisfying the first time around but gawd does it improve with experience ! The first series has some of the funniest storylines of all times, culminating in the beardy Bill becoming a manwhore for Japanese business men ! Love it !

I forgot, but the TV just happened to be on C4 when I got in last night.

Yeah it was ok, but not a classic episode.
The little dolls of the Bernard and Manny (speling?) were very funny.

Watched it when I got back from England last night (thank fupp for video recorders!), laughed my ass off, not the best episode ever, but was brilliantly done! :) "Left, right, forward, stilll forward, left, step over the dead badger...." Dying for next weeks already, of course! :D Roll on the 22nd, series 2 on DVD! :D

The bookshop manager / guy from Spaced is Simon Pegg, who was excellent as usual. (Speaking of which, Play.com are selling Series 1 & 2 of Spaced on DVD at £6.99 each; mine arrived yesterday.)

Anyone spot the big continuity error. Manny is in the fascists bookshop and eating a bun which has crumbled
on the counter. Manny is talking to Fran, in the shot from the front of the counter the cake has mysteriously un-crumbled itself! Then when the camera goes back to the side on view its crumbled again.

Good episode..loved the cup eating moment as Bernard reaches point of now return. The bar underneath the resturant table was a neat gag. Could do without the audience though.

That was so surreal, but made me think "god wouldn't you love if they had those in real restaurants :)".

Cup-eating moment was class. The laugh out loud moments for me were the line from Bernard - "Do you still call the store Black Books?" "Well I was going to call it World Of Tights but you know how stupid people are, you have to spell it out for them". And the look on Moo-ma's face after the "Oh I was young once too" "Oh, well then he's a beast in the sack" bit :) Oh and Manny and Fran waking up to find people walking around them :)

Bernard trying to bet on the two women behind the counter was brilliant last night:

"I'll put £20 on you - you look nippy enough!"

Last nights a lame plot getting in the way of the gags.

What about that ending...? They forgot to write one!

    Mike.

Nooooo - in the end Bernard wasn't evicted from the shop or his legs ! We're you watching ?
