who will be backup scrum-half for ireland?

    Ireland keep big squad

    Ireland have kept a big squad (31 man squad) for the match against Italy next weekend. But looking at the squad and knowing the doubts over Stringers fitness, who will be the backup to Guy Easterby if Stringer is ruled out?

    Will it be Brian O'Meara or Brian O'Riordan of Leinster?

    Or will it be someone else?

    Oh and it is also nice to see Yapp get a call for the squad!!

    Yapp gets Irelands Call

    God knows why but Guy Esterby will get it if stringer isn't back. Brian O'Meara on the bench.

    Have to agree with GH. Its going to be Guy Esterby to start I am afraid and O Meara on the bench. The problem is that is such a hugh gulf between Stringer and anyone else. He is only missing the sniping break and he would be world class. Redden looks promising for a young player but needs a few more years. Really there is nothing between the chasing pack but they are miles behind Stringer. One of two places we have no real cover for the other being Bull.

    I think a good box kick is essential too! IMO
    yeah he doesnt go around the fringes enough to make defences wary and stay tighter on ruck/scrum/maul.

    I'd say it will be Easterby alright with O'Meara as backup. Pity O'Riordan or Redden aren't given a chance ahead of Easterby though.
