sorry if I sound like a plank here, but I'm not that upto date with car cd players. I'm looking for some car stereo that plays actual mp3 files. I have a 128meg USB harddrive and I want to be able to fill it with mp3's and plug it into the car stereo and listen away, or something to that effect. I've been looking at 'mp3 players' but all they seem to do is be able to play cdr's... which is no good anymore as my cdr collection is getting out of hand!

anyway, can someone point me in the direction of units like what I'm describing?

    this site http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shopping/pages/index.html
sells a 20gb car mp3 player ,Dension DH-100 Hard Disk/Tuner for £399 sterling and £10 shipping, but i myself think thats way too much. i got mp3-cd player (panasonic 383)off incarexpress.co.uk for about 170 euro incl. shipping and am happy with it .i use 24x rewritable cd's with it allowing about 10 albums on each cd , and can delete them and add new albums without any too much hastle. they have a jvc cd/mp3 player for £5 more and looks lot better than my silver one.

I had the same issue, I wanted to use my usb device - that way I can clear off songs when i get bored etc. BUT at this moment in time there is no decent car stereo with a usb connection, which is strange as the tech. is fairly easy and i dont see why it could not be introduced. Having said that I have a sony car stereo, with a 6 CD\MP3 changer in the boot and it works a treat - although I am having a few issues with skipping tracks etc but that might be down to either CDR's i am using or the software for copying it.

Either way the USB idea isnt a runner yet, I'd look at the link on the previous post for mp3 players....thats your best bet for now.

    Why not try this out?

Get an Ipod and transmit the output to you car FM tuner!

I have an older version without the car adapter, I play Dvix video's on my laptop and transmitt the audio to the car stero. The kids love long journeys!

Only small drawback is that they are not available to sell in Ireland. There is a license problem with selling FM transmitters. But you are allowed to operate it in Ireland. You need some friend in the US to send it to you.

Get an Ipod and transmit the output to you car FM tuner!

technically they are illegal here, you cant broadcast FM without a license,
moving swiftly on from that amazon.co.uk have a similar device the Arkon Soundfeeder, it plus into the cigarette lighter slot and has a low power fm transmitter, tune it into an unused frequency on your car radio and away you go.
I'd google about a bit for information on the sound quality though, i've never used one personally.

    You learn something new everyday!

Still, the sound quality is excellent. I even slowed down and pulled over because of a siren on the DVD, which I tought was the cops in real life.

I even works in the house to boardcast the sounds from my PC to the stero in the kitchen, and sitting room at the same time. It works up to about 15-20 feet. and you sent the freqency to 4 different values, 88.1, 88.3, 88.5 and 88.7 MHz.

    thanks for help guys,

I cant believe there are no devices out yet, like what I described above. The Ipod idea is a good one, but looks a bit messy tbh

Every car has a tape player.... just get a standard portable MP3 player, and buy one of those dead easy to use tape converter do-dads. It plugs into the same slot the earphones go into in your player, and the other end is a tape which you stick in your car tape player. it works flawlessly, and isn;t illegal. :-p

i've used one of theose headphone to fake tape yokes meself on holiday with my NetMD. took a bunch of music over and played our own stuff in the hire car through it's tape player on the MD. as was said, it worked flawlessly.
