MP3 streaming bitrate

    Hi,
I want to stream mp3's from one p.c to another just over say a cross over cable or something. All manuals that I see on the web say to stream them at 128kb. I am using an icecast server and a shout streamer and an XMMS player on the other machine. The player takes them in at 256 kb ( i don't know-well i can't see anywhere if u can change this ).

May problem is, no matter what rate i stream them at, I either very jittery play or else heavy buffering during the song. I changed the bitrate from rediculously high to low. Why is this, i tried streaming over a hub and over bluetooth and its still the same so its not the communication device!
    E.

If it's just to one other PC, and it's over a LAN cross-over cable, why do you need a server?

Just get XMMS or WInAmp on PC #2 to read the drive or directory of your MP3s directly on PC #1. Server if it's a possibility of 2 or more PCs requesting same file from 1 PC, otherwise a waste of time.
