I thought it was pretty good. Only read later that he's was the brother of Patrick "a bit fu*ked" Bateman. This gave me a huge "aaaaaaahhhh", and then I decided to read the book myself. There are alot of similarities between these two characters, mainly their ignorance and shallowness.

I liked the book aswell, although in some places it can get kind of bland (but this portrays the characters that we're dealing with). All in all, I enjoyed this book.

The film is more popcorn/audience friendly. It actually improves in some ways when it comes to the storytelling.

Shannyn Sossamon is gorgeous aswell (of course:D)

    All hail the Shannyn!

Is there any writers like Brett, that give you the shallow slacker generation of the 80's, but with a little bit more plot? I thoght Dawson (penuthead) was surprisingly good and showed himself to be a great representation of Sean.

Is the film less than zero any good? Brett hated it (but it's got Robert Downey jnr in it!) and the trailer looks a bit crap. Having said that, I wasn't crazy about the book. Althought the last quater, when the sh*t hit the fan I guess, was pretty shocking (when Julian became a ho' for some nasty pimp because of failed drug payments).

It's sad to read this, because you know that if he fled the City, the pimp would just go after his family. He couldn't escape it.:(

I recommend the book to people with too much time on their hands and who want to read about rich White Americans getting hepped up on goofballs. I'm not sure who could relate to this book in Ireland, or even the US. That said, the film is good if only for the humour and style Avary injects it with. Plus you get to see Shannon getting done doggy-style.

Avoid the DVD release here, it is cut by over a minute (the suicide scene). Norwegian release is the best according to DVDcompare.net.

I wasn't sure if I liked or disliked the book (at the end I say it's good). In some ways it's good, others, bad. There's pretty good characterisation but it can go on a tangent often.

That's the problem with Brett, he creates terrific characterisations of hollow people, but as a result creates scenes that are pretty bland. For instance, Patrick Bateman (who was so realistic, that people thought Brett himself was just talking about himself/who he wants to be) but an incredible boring character (other than his violent side).

You'd be right in saying that Avary improves on it. I like the fact that he did the pulp fiction thing, and had the end at the start. When in fact this scene (in the book) happened way before she ever met Sean. That was good though in a way, because it showed how it resulted in her not giving damn anymore about moral standards when it came to sex (so she just became another slut).

But I didn't like the scene in the film where she's with the teacher (you know what I mean), because it just seems to throw her 'waiting for the right guy' attitude out the window.
