no audio signal from dvd to tv via modulator

    Hi folks,
My friend is living in luxembourg. She brought over a dvd player she bought here in Ireland, and discovered that her television over there has no scart connection. I went over recently with a universal modulator, and hooked it up to tv. I found the right UHF setting, and plugged out the aerial connection, and received a perfect dvd picture but no sound.

Figured this was because it's a luxembourg tv, and the whole PAL thing of which I'm not too sure about. The modulator should pick up both audio and visual signals. However she has since bought a cheap luxembourg dvd player, and still is getting no sound.

Is it the modulator box, which was bought in Ireland? Would hooking it up to separate speakers work?

    Cheers

I think the audio channel used by the Irish modulator differs to the audio freqs used in Luxembourg.

There are different audio frequencies - Ireland/UK use I, other countries use B/G, I, and I think a few others. I remember the Playstation modulator had an audio switch to choose between two.

Is there an option in teh TV tuning menu to change the Audio Freq to I?

    Thanks

Don't know if there's an option in the TV tuning menu to change the Audio Freq to I, and now that I'm back in ireland will have difficulty finding out - had to buy a phillips universal remote as the tv (phillips) had one of those basic hotel remotes with no tuning function.

Do you know if hooking a set of speakers with RCA audio leads to dvd player would work, whilst feeding scart into modulator box for picture?

It's cheaper than buying a tv with scart connection:dunno:

The TV she uses must be ancient if it doesn't have a Scart input, or at the very least phono inputs for Audio and Video.

Where were you gonna plug the audio RCA's into? If it was into the TV, then picture via RF channel, and audio via External input would not work. If the TV has audio RCA's inputs, then it must have a video input also, perhaps BNC plug?
