My NEC1100A will only burn at 2.4x when it should burn at 4x

as the subject says it only burns at 2.4x, my firmware is the latest version from nec, any ideas. and the discs are 4x

Usually what happens here is that the Media is not supported by the burner at 4X and reduces the speed to 2.4x to ensure you get a proper DVD rather than an expensive coaster.

Also you should look at the Herrie Firmware for this drive. I have the same model and i used that firmware to allow more compatibility with different media and also made the drive completely region free.
