Started filming a few days ago in Iceland

Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman)
    Ken Watanabe (Ra's Al Ghul),
    Michael Caine (Alfred Pennyworth),
    Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox),
    Katie Holmes (Rachel Dodson),
    Cillian Murphy (Dr. Jonathan Crane)
    Liam Neeson (Ducard)
    Gary Oldman (Sgt. Jim Gordon)
    Larry Holden (D.A. Fisk)
    other cast not announced yet.

After the deplorable joke of a film that was "Batman and Robin" I guess I should be wary of this but...

Just look at the cast . And being directed by Christopher Nolan can't exactly do damage either!

    Script Preview

And Here is an admittedly fake teaser image.

All in all you'll be guaranteed to see me in the cinema in July 2005!

While all in all the film sounds like a good idea (especially the way that Nolan wants to try to beef up Bruce Wayne as a character rather than the guy outside the suit, more like he is in the comic), I still don't like the idea of s*itting all over Burton just to spite Schumacher (who should be thrown off the Warner watertower for his crimes against Gotham...) :(

But that said, the idea'll grow on me, and I still have the DVDs and Jack... So, I'll see you in Screen 1 JC!

I'm excited about this now! Liked both Memento and Insomnia, and what a cast.

I Cant wait for this , love most of the cast and he has said hes not going to make a typical "hollywood" movie , good director too

Theres apparently a rumour that he wants to get Adam West to play a cameo as someone in the mayors office, possibly even the mayor himself...

Wonder how much this Mayor West will like his Taffy...

Apparently "Batman" i.e. Bruce in the suit doesn't appear until about an hour into the film.
From what I've heard I can't help but get an image of "The Hulk" mixed with "The Shadow"
    But maybe that's just me.
i.e. building character for ages and no action.
But then again I have faith in Nolan and fully expect one mighty twist at the end!

So looking forward to this. While I thought Batman Forever was watchable, B & R was just diabolical so here's hoping that Mark 5 will make up for that.
The cast looks fantastic so we could be on to a winner.

Difference is Bruce Wayne actually is an interesting character, Banner is not.

Plus the origin of Batman (murdered parents, discoving the batcave etc) is a HELL of a lot more interesting than the Hulks with it's typical Marvel 'generic mildmannered nobody comes in contact with hazard material and natually becomes a Superhero.'

As to the film itself, I'm not a great fan of the character of Ra's Al Ghul but I could see plent of big screen potential for The Scarecrow and his various mindfuping capers.

Personal feeling is Batman Begins could be 2nd best Batman film (behind Burtons '89 classic of course). What I see letting BB down from that cast list is a case of 'two many cooks'. Why they couldn't just keep it simple with '1 good v 1 bad' like they did in 1989 is beyond me.

If you scan the web, you'll find various reviews of the script. They've all got one thing in common: they really really like it. I'm quite hopeful about this one...

Since Christopher Nolan is at the helm of this project he will hopefully create a dark hero film that Batman needs rather than the vibrant, colourful Spider-Man type. I would prefer it to look along the lines of the animated series of Batman than the tripe of Batman and Robin. Only thing good about that was the Smashing Pumpkins song on the soundtrack.

    so its a prequal basically??
I wonder what will happen after this film if its a hit.... will they be forced to recognise that B&R has happened for the next one??

Anyway...I am looking forward to it, Batman should be dark and mysterious like the Burton Batman, and Adam Wests Batman (:D ).... once Burton/Keating left things went to hell IMO
Cast looks good, and even though I dont like Cane he will do a good job as Alfred... and the other parts seem well casted (what i know of them anyway).

i have high hopes for this one considering that the script was written by legendary batman comic book writer Frank Miller. it will have a much darker tone to it than batman and robin.

Christian bale should do a very good job as batman. he has that dark seriousness about him-then again anyone is better than george clooney

i thought jack napier (the joker) killed batmans parents, i noticed on a quick scan of the leaked script that Joe Chill does it.... according to the article, he was the original comic book killer, so it looks like Nolan and Co. really is ignoring everything that has gone before, he's not even trying to link his with Burtons.
so will this film over lap with the burton films timescale?

The script is actually written by Goyer with some imput from Nolan (probably story wise). Having said that, I heard it's inspired by batman:Y1, which is written by Frank Miller.

There's actually gonna be a superman vs batman film aswell (probably inspired/based on dark knight returns).

Well i could be be a good idea to just wipe the slate clean and start again!!!But not mkatter what i'm delighted to see the dark knight make his return!!!

Batman vs Superman!! Just another money maker!!!!:D

Wasn't there a script ready for Batman:Year 1 ready to go (and even some storyboards drawn up) with Darren Aranofsky sp?(Directed "Pi") set to direct it?

I have to admit that even though the current batman begins looks pretty interesting; this previous version looked even better.

yeah, i remember a friend telling me about him, and it was looking pretty good because everyone knew due to his indie style he wouldnt budge to accomidate a stupid action film like what Schumaker did... i think he was pressured into changing his idea too much and he told them where to stick it.

Burton made the best Batman movies... leave the comic alone. already enough bad movies have been made.

The 70s tv show Batman was the best :) Pure Adam West.

    It sure was!
Nothing like the occasional break into a dance every now and again or the fantastically helpful lables they had on all the machines in the Batcave.
    *sigh*
I wish they'd put all of that into the new film.....

The Batman Vs. Superman film was canned when Wofgan Peterson walked. The plot was supposed to center around the Joker manipulating Batman into fighting Superman until they teamed up to take on the Joker and Lex Luthor. Thank god it was canned, as Justin Timberlake was being considered for the role of Superman. Now one of West****e wants to play superman in the new film.:( Hopefully he will be hit by a tree before anyone even considers him as a possibility.:D

Batman versus Superman was a preposterous scenario.
How the hell could Batman compete ?
    He has no superpowers .
Maybe if he had lots of Kryptonite he'd have a small chance but otherwise it sound ludicrous.
Sounds like something a 5 year old would think up.

Who is Wofgan Peterson (is he a comic book writer)?

Batman versus Superman was a preposterous scenario.

If you read dark knight returns, it handles it pretty well (a twist at the end).In that graphic novel, superman has become a pawn for the u.s, and is used by the government to eradicate wars, etc.

Wolfgang Petersen is a director. Probably most well known for Das Boot.

You sure? i heard that Timberlake was/is being considered for the part of Jimmy Olsen (the geek photographer) in the Superman movie.... I dont think anyone (except maybe Schumaker) would try and make him superman, the scrawney little f*uck that he is... he might be ok as Olsen, if he can act that is....

Who is going to be superman, actually? I remember hearing Cage was, and i thought he was too thin, but look at him in Con Air, shows he can build himself up if he needs to (but still a bad choice IMO)

hopefully the new batman movie is good, it can't be worse then what's gone before it... and it has a half decent premise (from what we've seen).

as for superman, Warners are making it so they're either going to all-out and make a great movie or make some pile of ****e..

A lot of People suggested Russel Crowe, who I think would be terrific, since he's a versatile actor, I think he could pull it off. A beautiful mind suggests to me that he would make a terrific Clark Kent.

What about Johnny Depp?? If I was making a film, I would strongly consider him. Has the look of that 50's style superman and he's a great actor.

I liked it, not too sure if I like the joker though, he's good for a short film but I don't know if I would want to see that actor playing him in a feature length . Do you know any other short bat flicks?

after his performance in pirates of the caribean he's surely a front runner

Nicholas Cage is linked to every comic book adaption. He was supposed to be in Hellboy, Constantine, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four...

    Like in Family Guy...............?

    Meg: Excuse me, Mayor West?

Adam West: How do you know my language?

Meg: Listen to me, my entire future is in your hands!

Adam West: Are you Sarah Connor?

There was a rumour a month or 2 ago that WB wanted Depp for the role of Lex Luthor. I think it would suit him better than the role of Superman.

The original Superman had well known names (Brando, Hackman) as supporting cast and an unknown (Reeves) as Superman. They should probably do the same, i.e. get Depp and some other big names supporting a relative unknown in the lead role.

Anyways, WB should put it on the backburner till they see how Batman does. And hopefully it will do well cos it (the cast, director, the general story idea) all sounds good so far. And since Nolan's directing, im expecting something a bit different than your average comic-book film.

I heard that aswell. As long as he's not bald. I would love David Fincher to do a bat flick, it would be very dark and have tremendous visual quality.

He nearly did spiderman, and as a result has the same scriptwriter as his previous work (fight club and panic room). I guess he would have probably given Jared Leto the role of spidey.

A batman vs superman movie if done properly could be a success. but sadly production of it is likely to fall into the hands of big name studios who see it purely as a money maker. but if there was a batman vs superman movie ed harris would make a good lex luthor imo.i dont kno who could cast as superman tho as there is a shortage of actors who even resemble him in appearance.

Even though I'm not mad over Billy Zane, he has the appearance and ego of Lex Luthor.

Cortney Cox would make a good Lois Lane, though mainly because she reminds me of the actress in the movies.

What about a Superman film with the guys who play Clark Kent and Lex Luthor in the tv series Smallville reprising their roles, only that it's set 10 years in the future relative to the tv series....?

[edit]Actually, considering the age of the actors, it could be set 15-20 years in the future...[/edit]
