It is the pinnacle of X Window Managers.

    Things I like about fluxbox.

Put the cursor on an area of the desktop an use the wheel to scroll virtual desktops.

Minimse a Window and it disappears from the Alt+tab re-popup set.
    Fluxbox supports Alt+tab.

It's simple and fast in comparison to 'other' wms.

You can use a command like Esetroot -scale /path/image.jpg in .fluxbox/init to set a background.

    In fact..

fluxbox even makes coffee/gets you laid.

For large memory systems > 512mb, KDE 3.2 is the ultimate desktop, oh sure fluxbox is fine for collage/pollix/emacs coding sessions.

But I want consistancy, I want inline spell checking in my browser, I want a very customised kicker and I want alpha bending konsole and a shiny theme.

Check out DCOP features if you like total customisation/scripting power.

It won't make the tea but really,
KDE is the future of the desktop!

    KDE 3.2 is nice.. but:

Konqueror is a piece of ****.
    KDE suffers from feature creep.

I much prefer the look of gnome, but it is too slow.

Yup, Typedef, I swear by fluxbox, been using it for about 3 years now, and it just gets better with every release.
However I set up gnome for my folks recently cause they were tired of viruses and stuff in windows, + some apps had stopped working properly for some reason I couldnt figure out.
I think gnome is excellent in terms of a heavy weight wm. Easy to use, and a proper modular GNU build, solid as a rock, getting very funky aswell in 2.2 -> 2..4
There is something about KDE i do not like and I havnt been able to pin it down, its just bloaty or mac like or something, I dunno, but it doesnt get my approval :) heh.
I also set up linux for a mate on a sony vaio, and just to be different I installed kahakai. Very nice especialy if you like python. Surprisingly fast too.

    It's seriously better with 3.2, I really couldn't use 3.1's Konqueror!
