I notice that on the new version of the lidl laptop it is dvd rw plus and minus where as the one they released six months ago with the same spec is only dvd rw plus. Has then been a firmware update to allow it to work with both types and if so where might i get it from.

I'd imagine it's actually a different drive. Does it name it? What drive do you have?

I sincerely doubt that it's a firmware upgrade if it's gone from single to dual format.

I havn't used it in ages but http://www.firmware-flash.com used to be a very good resource for firmware should you want to flash your drive in any event. Quite often DVD Burners get added media support from firmware but it won't magically make it dual format.

just it seems to be the same drive LG, just with duel support, in every other way its the same laptop.

yeah, the older model is a Ricoh, whereas the new one is an LG Drive, so don't go flashing ;-)

red vex: mine used to a bit, but since I've updated the BIOS firmware, I haven't had a hang since. I also installed ATi Omega Drivers too, if that may of prevented the crash also, and the latest VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers v4.51 I think. So I'm putting it down to one of these fixing the problem or it hanging.

BIOS is a Bootable CD Image.
It's all in German though, but It should still be straight forward. (EDIT: The BIOS Installation instructions that is)
