Are there any regular Hold 'Em(Casinos or otherwise) games in Cork? Myself and a few friends play home games fairly regularly and want to see how we do against different, more experienced competition.

I heard about a tournie in Harbour Point last Friday but I couldn't make it.

I do not know where that is exactly so if u know will you tell me.

The "MACAU" is on patricks Quay. Go ever the bridge from Patrick St and take a right. It's there on your left.

Yes the Macau, a nice club and the staff are very friendly. Only thing is that they don't run games everynight, I think they have a game either Tuesday or Wednesday, and weekend day. I called them prior to the games and they are very helpful - try calling them after 6:30 ish.

Rochestown park this monday night have a 55 entry with €10000e.s.t prizepool.
This is a double chance with re-buys and top-ups @€;50. A pertcentage of the re-buys and top-ups are retained and go towards the production of the event. This is clearly announced throughout the tournament and is never more than 50%.
With a tournament director, and croupiers at every table these events are very well run, with tickets awarded to the 250 plus 25 freezeout on the 15/16 April in the same hotel.

Fintan I should just correct you on the use of the term "double-chance" this applies to a tournament where you pay a set entry fee say 100euro for which you get 5000 chips. At the start of play you only recieve 2500 chips and can take the remainder anytime before the break for no extra charge

there are 3 regular weekly tourneys at the macau. 50-90 entries most nights.

    Sunday
10e+1e NL Holdem, 10e rebuys (unlimited, first hour only), 10e double add-on

    Tuesday
20e+2e NL Holdem, 10e rebuys (limit 5, first hour only), 10e double add-on

    Friday
20e+2e NL Holdem, 20e rebuys (limit 5, first hour only), 20e double add-on

    First Weds of each Month
    100e+10e Freezeout

    Cash games after any tourney
50e (1-2 PL Holdem, 1-1 PL Omaha round of each)
    25e (max 100e buy-in, .50-1 PL Holdem)
    100e (2-2-5 Omaha)

    Bohsman,

I'm well aware of the double chance meaning with regards to getting 50% chips at start and 50% when u go bust. I believe the Lido in Amsterdam was the first to introduce it a few years back. Then I noticed the English took it up. This is why I explain fully at all my tournaments what I mean by double-chance in advance. To date it has completely understood by all players. It is simple english and that I believe suits exactly the actual structure that my tournament is.
    Comments appreciated.

Did anyone play the 11K IPT tournament in Cork on Monday. How many players? How many top ups rebuys etc etc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭azzeretti

Pokerevents: Just so I know before I show up, the event in the Red Cow isn't a Double Chance per say, more a buy-in with ONE chance only to either rebuy or top-up?
    Is this correct?

About 200 people entered, more were turned away due to lack of room/dealers

They didn't ask me for ID or membership the last (and only) time I was there.

There's a game every Wednesday in the LV about 9pm. €10 with no re-buys. I've heard there's a similar game in Áras na Mac Léinn every Monday. I've heard there's a game every Tuesday in Aoife Landers on Oliver Plunkett street but I'm not sure about that one. I know there definitely is a weekly game there, I'm just not sure it's Tuesday night.

It's probably possible to find a game every night. There's always a few serious poker players at any of the tournaments that will know of upcoming games.

    What's the LV?

Pub on MacCurtain Street. Opposite the Collusium/Leisure Plex

The macau have added a tournament to their weekly schedule. From Monday the 23rd May 2005 there will be a €100 freezeout every Monday. I presume starting time is 9pm (thats the time the rest of their tournies start).

Their monthly tournament will now be a €200 freezeout on the first thursday of every month (again 9pm is probable start time).

I have heard that stating chips for the Monday freezeout will be 4000 but am open to correction on this.

The rest of the weekly schedule remains unchanged with tournies on Tuesday, Friday & Sunday as detailed in other posts. Currenty they are running satellites for their July festival on Wednesday nights.

They used to have a €100 + 10 freezout on the first Wednesday of every month. I suspect they've changed it because the "Rochestown" (presumably the Rochestown Park Hotel) are getting around a hundred people at their (reportedly) badly run tournament on Monday nights whereas the Macau are lucky to get forty at theirs.

Numbers in the Rochestown were down last week. 90 runners as far as i know. For the last two weeks they were allowing two rebuys (presumably to reach their "guaranteed" prize fund). The tournament was originally advertised as a single rebuy tourney.

The macau will be a better value tournie. The rochestown tournament is keeping 50% of the rebuys towards its costs (which must be considerable). The macau tournament will have 90% of the entries as prizes. 10% will go towards their league prize fund.

Given the choice i will be supporting the macau tournament :-)

i know its short noticbut there is a no limit tournament on in the mardyke at 5 today. not sure how much to enter or how much prize money though. i only thought i would mention it if someone wanted a game.

Who the hell plays poker at 5pm on a Thurdsay? :)

I thought the Macau league thing was over since all the terminator buttons are gone? It's wee todd did anyway - you can buy your way into the final table if you want.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 luckysod

The league has started again. They have changed the format. The terminator buttons were not popular. Essentially they proved nothing about a players skill & were open to cheating. The new league give points to everyone who makes the last two tables.

    The league now has 4 nights - Monday (100 freezeout), Tuesday (20 + 5 rebuys @ 10), Friday (20 + 5 Rebuys @ 20), Sunday (10 + unlimited rebuys @ 10)

all rebuy periods are limited to 1 hour

    All tournies start @ 9pm

Anything else ya need to know ??

Did anyone go last Monday? I was up to my elbows in tiling grout, but I'm considering a trip in next Monday. Do I need to be a member of the club beforehand? How long before the tournie would I need to turn up?

19 runners last monday. €1000 for 1st prize ... think they paid a 100 for 4th. Not bad for the first night. Hopefully it'll grow.

You will need to join the club but this only takes 5 mins once you have photo ID with ya & its free. Because its a freezeout there are no late entries. Being there 10 mins beforehand will leave you plenty of time
