NTL Digital Update UKTV Labels

    Very impressed with the speed by with NTL have updated the labels on all UKTV Channels. Now that they are heavily promoting themselves as 9 channels, one UKTV network, I wonder how long it will be for us to get the remaining ones.

    I watched the hand-over into UKTV Drama tonight, and managed to see UKTV Food for about one minute. So UKTV Drama appears to channel-share with UKTV food. Surely NTL could provide UKTV Food during the day too?

    I e-mailed ntl about that a while back. They said that "due to licensing agreements, they are only permitted to carry certain channels on their service". Doesn't make any sense to me - why would UKTV care if NTL carried their channels? After all, sky carry all of their services in Ireland... :confused:

    Its really a question of two things -

    The amount NTL pays UKTV for the channel carrige is obviously smaller if they take less channels. They are taking the most popular channels UKTV Gold and UKTV G2, along with UKTV Drama. By taking UKTV Bright Ideas, they get a channel (designed explicity BTW for the Freeview platform) which carries output from both UKTV Style and UKTV Food. This leaves UKTV History, and the fomer UK Horizons (which was a big hole in NTL's service), but whether the channel's children, UKTV People and UKTV Documentary, are a loss to NTL viewer's I'm not sure. (My own personal opinion, as long as they have Gold and G2, I'm happy).

    Secondly, NTL's service is still a limited bandwidth one. NTL save bandwidth by not carrying all the channels.
