    Hi,

I'm playing around with MandrakeMove, I don't have a SUB stick but I have a card reader (found by Mandrake) and a Memory Stick (I can mount it).
In the PC I am trying, there's also 1 partition (Fat32) I can use...

But the MS and the partition are always in Read only...!
I checked the option in Disk Drake and it seems ok...

    What am I missing?
Do you think I can use the MS as a USB stick? I check the Help, but there'sn't that much in it.

    Thanks
    Raphael

    Just more info:
In DiskDrake, my Memory Stick is showned as sdb... I can mount it, format it... but it is still in Read only...!

Did you mount it as root and change the permissions of the mount directory to a+w?

The thing is that it looks like you can't login as root with MandrakeMove... or to be clear I couldn't find how to!

Ahaaaa. Check if the USB key that comes with Mandake Move isn't some kind of dongle. There's another guy on here that started using MandrakeMove recently, might be able to tell you.

Ok, I was able to login as root (su in the console) and then got read-write access to all my disks, Memory stick included...
but it seems that my Memory stick is not like a USB key... it should be detected just after the login and should automatically be used to save all your settings.

I couldn't find how to save my settings on my HD or Memory Stick..
I also read info about people not be able to use some USB sticks (not the Mandrake one).

Though this is a nice idea, I try it on 2 PCs and apart from a win modem (!) everything was detected, I was able to burn a CD, check email, surf the web, listen to MP3,... without installing anything just off the CD.

I had the impression that you could only have the USB-key settings-storage functionality if you purchased MandrakeMove (be it with their own USB key or without), or am I wrong?

After trying 3 liveCD: MandrakeMove, Slax and Knoppix:
I choose Knoppix to use because this is the only one which works perfectly on my laptop (Dell I8000).
MandrakeMove and KDE doesn't like the graphic card and Slax stops on the PCMCIA detection...

With Knoppix I can save my config onto a FAT HD (just a small compressed file) and onto a Memory stick connected by USB in my Clie.

Also I found that Knoppix is the one with more extra (I try all 3 distribs in 2 PCs a Sony desktop and my laptop), all the software you might need (even some you don't :D).
And very good point I had no problem to setup my Wifi PCMCIA card (D-link)... almost like plug and play!

It is not the right forum for that but if someone want to have a go I can burn a copy of one of these 3...!
