Processor roadmaps (LGA-775 etc.)

From looking at processor roadmaps, it seems like right now is a very bad time to purchase a new motherboard/CPU. Socket 478 for the P4 is on its last legs with LGA-775 on the way. And socket 754 for the Athlon64 seems to be a short term thing until socket 939 arrives.

I really want to build a new system NOW but if the LGA-775 or Socket 939 stuff was available within the next month or so I would hold off.

Anyone have an idea when this stuff could come on the market. The roadmaps state Q2 of 2004. Generally, would this mean the beginning, middle or end of Q2? Do the manufacturers even stick to these timescales? Also when the CPUs come out, are suitable motherboards generally available straightawawy or is there usually more waiting involved?

they're all coming in May. Socket 754 has the longest legs of all available atm, AMD seem to be gearing it up to be their budget chipset, so it should last until at least the end of the year as a supported platform, if not longer.

suitable motherboard will more or less be available straight away with just the little caveat that they will be the first motherboards for these new platforms and not seasoned veteran motherboard for a well known chipset such as the nf7-s v2.0 etc.

I think you mean the nvidia nforce 2 chipset, the nf7 is a motherboard.
