Sound/Computer Problem

My computer's been acting strangely after an overhaul, and i was wondering if anyone could suggest why.

Last x mas the OS was upgraded to XP, we got an audigy soundcard and a geforce 5200 graphics card. Ever since, the computer will emit a loud wail from the speakers and lock up completely. Happens playing games, depending on the game the more often it happens, Halo, Deux Ex 2 and GTA VC being the main culprits.

Having changed 3 thing bout the comp, i'm unsure both what's wrong and what's causing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

On the face if it, that sounds like a straightfoward component clash. Check the device manager and see if anything is flagged as not working properly.

Creative Labs soundcards are notorious for being picky about graphics cards/mobo combinations.

Is your computer a Dell by any chance?

Checked the device manager, and it's all clear. And yeah it is a dell, this shed any more light on the problem

I suggest updating the drivers for your sound card and your MB you can get them on their websites or you reinstall your sound card in a different PCI slot therefore causing XP to reinstall the device,

    Thanks joePC

Try moving the soundcard as far away from the graphics card as possible. The heat from the Graphics card could be affecting the Sound card

8200 series? Sounds to me like you have the "squeel of death" that I had. Dell mobo's don't seem to like audigys. Head to the Dell website and download the newest bios revision for your computer. That should fix it.
