    Hey,

Rather than tying up my internet connection for hours, does anyone know where I can get my hands on the Fedora (3 CD) installation set around Dublin?

    Cheers.

Why don't you check out the file sharing forum, see if someone will download them for you. Hell if you have a list of FTP's I'll download them and dang them on a DVD for you,(if your in Dublin that is)

Fedora Core 1 or the latest version? (2 hasn't been released yet, but it's on the way.) If the former, I'd be happy to burn it for you -- send 3 blank CDs and an SAE to Box 81, Ballinlough, Cork.

    http://www.linux.ie/community/cdburners.php

The ILUG "CD Burners" page will always have someone willing to do it (one of them has already offered you the service).

I should have Fedora Core 2 downloaded in about an hour if anyone wants it. Have to verify the file first etc.

Urgh. Downloaded the iso's, burned the image to cd, and the damn things don't boot. I'm a newb here, what's the best way to test the integrity of the iso's?

I think Red Hat 8/9 used to automatically prompt you to test the media before you installed, is that not in Fedora?

it is, but his cds won't even boot

Exactly, I need to test them through windows or a DOS application. I burned the iso using nero (just chose burn image, and selected the image - so I doubt that's the problem.)

Anyway to download the first iso seperately?

did you check the MD5 sum after you downloaded them? if the MD5 sum you get off your (downloaded) iso isn't the same as the md5 sum it says in the file at the site where you got the iso then it's not worth your while burning them.

happened to me with the FC2test1 iso's. downloaded the first one from about five different places, everytime a different md5 sum (off the iso), none of them were correct (according to the md5 file at each of the sites). i eventually gave up. will wait for the proper release of FC2. it should be on the cover cds of Linux format or some other linux mag...

(btw there are md5 checkers for windows too. do a google search)

are you sure your bios can boot from cds, i have to use smartbootmanager or some other boot floppy to get bootable linux iso's to boot

The FC2 images you downloaded should definitely be bootable. Either youre PC is having trouble booting off CD's or they're corrupted in some way. I'd be more inclined towards the option of trouble booting from CD's.

If your images are corrupted you should be able to use rsync to update the iso's against the mirrored copies.

I can boot from other cd's even a dvd distro I had. Can a corrupt iso be repaired in windows, or just delete and start again?

it might have been said here before, but check out bittorent (I use Azureus) for iso downloads, it automatically does md5 sums as it is downloading, which is nice...

pretty much forget about repairing iso images, especially ones with booting failures. go with leeroy's suggestion rsync rocks!

I used bit torrent to download the file. Got four iso's and a md5 file. Now just have to figure out this md5 malarky. :D

quite simply if you downloaded the image with bittorent, the md5 will be correct! the protocal is designed that way. Unless it got corrupted on your disk.

Are you burning as TAO or DAO, I always use TAO with boot cds'. Work with CDRW media until you get it right, Back in old windows days I used nero all the time, in linux I use k3b (auto md5 checker too)

    good luck,

Trying with easy cd creator now. TAO was definately mentioned. :D I'll let you know how it goes.
