Freaked out over a dream

    Sounds petty but...

Ive had this dream a few times, in which I was outside my house I was looking towards the east sky, I saw a plane fly past and then I saw three misiles fly past in the distance, two of them kept going but one dipped down and I knew it was about to explode but at the same time I knew it was far away enough not to hurt me, anyway I see the big explosion, mushroom clood and all that stuff, usualy thats where the dream ends. But a few nights ago I had it again this time though shortly after the nuke went off, planes came flying towards me in a line dropping nuclear bombs I could see one of them falling and it was going to hit really close to me so I knew i was gonna die, with my little knollege of how the things work I rembered hearing that it wouldnt be painfull if I ran right to the center of the bomb so i did, and then in my dream i ran up to it as it exploded and I DIED! I was then in a wierd heaven(well what i think was heaven) it was just like the normal world only without the main problem causers, money, drugs, alcohol ect... and it was cool.

Now im not religous at all, i dont beleive in any after life or these sort of things. And I allways beleived that if you died in your sleep you died in real life also!

Now this dream has me really freaked out, everytime I look in the direction of where the missiles flew and the planes came from I get totally panicy. I dont really like to talk about it because its more of one of those teenager fear of nuclear war phases, and me being just past my teen years feel its a bit immature to let this bother me, but it really does, especially since I died in the dream....

Hmmm.. dont let it worry you, there probably will not be a nuclear war for a while... if there is it is inconsequential anyway, since you dont really exist and this reality is possibly a fabrication of our minds, as is our notion of self-awareness. ;) Dream about that matey!

Dude! I have the same dream!

I'm in my house, looking out the window. There's a flash and the start of a mushroom cloud in the distance. I turn to run but before I get even a step I'm dust.

    It's spooky as ****.

    I also get dreams about:
    - getting chased by lions/tigers and being eaten
    - teeth falling out or gums rotting away
    - dick falling off (<-HIGHLY DISTRESSING!)

    Everyone gets those ones though.

I didn't think anyone else got the nuclear one. At least I know I'm not bat**** insane. (Or if I am, that I have company)

i had a few of those dreams a few years ago, apocalypse deams..
they stopped after a few months .. its all in your head..

if at all possible in your next apocalypse dream, remind yourself your in your dream, you can change how things happen.. it takes a while, but it is possible..

Check a dreams directory for some of the symbols. They generally are a symbol for something else completely. Could be just something in your life that needs change...

I know from experience the more u think about a bad dream, the more frequently u get it. Try and not think about it as much.

Yeah, I had a few of the being chased by Lions etc dreams.. I think this could be some kind of ancient genetic memories from our amygdalas... being afraid of predators etc.. Weird that the animal/beast dreams are the most scary at any rate.

Once, I had a waking dream, which I think are the worst. I could feel that there was something at the end of my bed, something small, and evil. I felt like I was awake, then I felt this bang on my chest as if something had just pounced on me.. Christ that was the most intense dream ever. I still remember jumping up and crying out.

Oh, one final interesting point about the apocalyptic dreams that two people share, if anyone has read or heard of the Bible Code Revisited, apparently the apocalypse is predicted to happen in 2005 or thereabouts. :) If you put faith in such things. ;)

true the apocalypse is a bi-annual event at this stage

    I also get dreams about:
    - getting chased by lions/tigers and being eaten
    - teeth falling out or gums rotting away
    - dick falling off (<-HIGHLY DISTRESSING!)

yea same here (not the dick one fortunately) apparently the teeth one is very common, heard its supposed to mean that one of yours friends is very sick but he/she doesnt know it yet!?

the dick one well maybe its a sign to visit the std clinic

I thought dreams about teeth falling out represented money worries/problems.

I used often have dreams of being in car crash, or speeding down a steep hill on a bike with no brakes only to crash into a lamppost at the bottom - caused me to wake up suddenly panting. Had those apocalypse dreams a few times. Lately having dreams when I'm walking and end up tripping (usually because I forgot to "mind the step"), again I wake up suddenly and panting. Only happens like once a fortnight though so I don't worry about it. Bit weird being so shocked by the sensation of tripping over something though :)

    K O'Riodan,

I know the feeling you're talking about, happens me quite a lot too! Normally only happens when I'm just falling asleep, never during a deep sleep.

I think the thing is that you react to what you're dreaming, your legs kick out to balance yourself (well, that happens ME anyway... ;)) and it's the sudden movement that actual wakes you up...

I often often often have dreams about my teeth falling out. It normally happens that they crumble in my mouth and I have a mouth full of crumbled teeth I have to spit out. Usually, when I do spit them out, I realise I actually DO still have my teeth, and all is well... considering... :)

As for dream symbols, etc., I don't know if I entirely agree with what most books / websites / "experts" have to say. I can recall at least 2 or 3 different meanings for what teeth represent (money, fear of having children, fear of commitment). All -I- know for certain is what -I- think, and I personally have a big big fear of losing my teeth / a tooth!

Seems to translate fairly laterally, in my opinion!

I wouldn't worry. Bush is going to wait until AFTER he is re-elected before he initiates nuclear armageddon.

My earliest dream (i.e. the one I remember most from when I was a kid) was me going downstairs to the living room and in the corner of the room was a lion, and it came over to me and bit my toe off. Scared me at the time obviously. Maybe it is genetic memory as so many people seem to have them.

As for the waking dream, I had my first one a couple of weeks ago and it was very weird. I could actually feel something sitting on my chest, and I tried to open my eyes to see what it was but my eyes could open very slightly, and I could make out a sort of animal face with whiskers. I assumed I was at my girlfriend's because I've often woken up to find her cat crawling around the bed. But then it got freaky, because I realised I was in my own bed. Again I tried to open my eyes fully to see what it was and I tried to move my arms to push it off, but I was completely paralysed. It was scary cos I could just see this animal face right up in my face. Eventually, I managed to open my eyes fully and obviously there was nothing there. I was breathing very rapidly there for a minute.

    You people...
My mate would be happy to trade for all the bad dreams in the world if it meant he could stop pissing the bed....

If your name is John and your mothers name is Sarah Connor then thanks very much pal - we're all fucked!!

TBH these dreams should empower you. If you can keep yourself from shitting yourself and you watch yourself die, yet still live, then you'll have more power in your dreams from that point on.

After playing a marathon session of Medal of honour for about a week during the summer of last year, I dreamt that I was actually fighting in ww2 blowing the living crud out of anything that moved. Most of my dreams involve me killing someone, rarely would I have a dream that I don't kill someone.

The worst dream I've ever had was when I was about six, I dreamt that I was being forced to marry the wife of that small Barlow guy from coronation street. Seriously. I was six and she was about fifty, wtf? It freaked me out for weeks and is the only dream I can recall from my childhood.

Re: Fear/Bad dreams about teeth crumbling and rotting and falling out !..

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this happens in real life all the time. The reasons are far too numerous to list here. The dentists do well out of supplying false teeth.

One of the great advantages is you will never suffer from toothache ever again. :D

Jesus I wish when I had that kind of dream, it was only an animal I am dreaming about. I have experienced the exact same thing as you but my one is about ghosts and s h i t. I have had that whole paralyzed/cant open eyes/trying to scream but nothing happening kind of dream tons of times. It is scary.

You know what I heard when you are sleeping and you suddenly feel like you are falling or you wake up with a sudden jerk. Apparently, that has something to do with your spirit trying to escape from your body but it is unable too because you will not let it. Astro project or whatever the hell it is called.

That's nothing, that happened to me once when I woke. Woke up before sleep paralysis had worn off or something. Couldn't move my eyes, any muscle in my body. Breathing was continuing under unconcious control but I couldn't control it conciously. Was like michelle pfeiffer in "what lies beneath". Think it lasted about 15 seconds but felt like about 5 minutes.

when i was very young 3/4 Before school anyway. I had this end of the world dream that still haunts me today. I had it loads of times but the time i remember most clearly, was one time i woke up crying hunched over in my hallway by my mother with no idea how i got there.Well anyway the drwam was about the living earth being destroyed. These massive machines were ripping up the surface of the world killing eveything. Inside all i could sense was this overpowering evil that just made me want to panic. whoever was driving these things weren't human.
Another part of this dream has to do when i looked at one of those 'people' it had to do with a sort of hell, where i could never escape. i was asked tofind the answer to a question. But the question can never be answered all i could do was try and work it out getting no closer to the answer. I would have to sit down and do it forever. a sory of Repetitive infinite hell.
As i got older i beleive that this repetitive task was something got to do with maths??? If i'm under a lot of stress anytime sometimes i think ofthis its horrible.

lol i also had a drwam about playing a WW2 game. Call of Duty i imagined i has a paracuter who had to defentd this room from nazis who were comming up 2 stairs. I was outnumbered. I was so afraid of getting shot. I could feel the pain and fear of my enemies, it was weird. I woke up with a respect for any soliders

I heard that too. I've had a recurring dream about my teeth coming loose and I just pull them out. Horrible dream.

Lotsa freaky dreams going on here! Hate those wake-with-a-jolt dreams, they suck!

Recently I've had a lot of car crash related dreams. I've never been in a real car crash, but I do feel like I have been now! Cars being mashed up together, the sound of the metal getting all crushed up.
Had the nuclear bomb one before too, looking out an upstairs window in my house, seeing the flash & mushroom cloud in the distance. I didn't ever die in these dreams but I had an uneasy feeling for days after it.

Another recent weird one I was walking around a non-specific busy town, people everywhere. This kid runs out into the road, I try to save him but he gets squished by a big truck. I run up to see if he's ok, and there's blood and limbs and bits of him splattered everywhere. I double over and start vomiting. Then I woke up.

Had a terrible recurring dream when I was a kid, it was so freaky. Started off like a cartoon, with this little girl picking a flower, and suddenly this total feeling of dread came over me, even though I wasn't actually in the 'scape. The dream moved on to this weird dark pulsating slimy *thing* (only way I can describe it) with the dream POV slowly moving around it. It wasn't a person or creature, just this weird formation, like a living structure or something *shudder*. It never really did anything, but there was just an awful sense of doom with it just being there. Probably some representation of fear or something, but hey, you can't rationalise this stuff when yer only a kid!
Haven't had that dream since I was younger, but damn it used to freak me out every time I had it.
