downstairs desktop doesnt have ethernet, i always though it did, only has 2 small phone line inputs, anyway need one so that can get a network running at home, to share broadband, now if i go get an ethernet card, would it work with my pc or what ?
i`ve never opened my pc before, so is there a special slot of it, would motherboard support it ?
i got pc back in 2001, its a Dell Dimension 8100.

Yeah, any PCI ethernet card will work in it, they're very cheap. Your motherboard should have 4 or 5 PCI slots, probably with a modem or something in one of them already. Just slot the PCI card in (make sure its seated properly) and screw the backplate down onto the case.
