not sure if this is the right place to post this, Mods move it to wherever you see fit.

It's got to be one of the most interesting and amazing things i've read in a long time. [via metafilter]

Photo-diary of a womans travels throuout the "wasteland"* around chernobyl on a Kawasaki ZZR 1100. Amazing pictures and tidbits of information from a woman who was living in the region when it happened

more pics of the region here, site is in cyrillic though.

*It actually looks rather beautiful and idyllic, apart from the lethal radiation.

I have to say, it's been a while since I've seen something so interesting online.

You're right, the countryside is quite strangely beautiful, and as a huge fan of end-of-the-world movies, I must say I'm very tempted to visit: this place has the look of one of the wonders of the nuclear age, truly a marvel of the monumental stupidity of mankind.

And naturally, an appropriate place for Dr_Manhattan to visit.

    thanks for the links

    heheh you too eh?

All i could think about while reading it was the amtrak war books, the omega man/i am legend and mad max.

I'd love to go for a week, cruising around on motorbikes, the radiation surely cant take more off my life than any other holiday i'd take.
