Normally it would show up as limited to 32Gb if it were limited by the BIOS' ability to address the disk.

Look up the tech specs for your motherboard on the manufacturers site to see if there are limitations. If there are they might have a new BIOS revision to fix them.

its is probably 32 actually leeroy couldnt remember just rough guess as have a 20gb primary partition.

Is it just a BIOS flashing or do i need a new board ?

If it's limited to 32Gb then it could either be:

    1) Check the jumper settings on the HDD.
Some drives can be jumpered to show up below the 32Gb limit for legacy reasons. This could be accidentally set.

    2) The motherboard limitation.
Chech for updates (I'm not sure if manufacturers are able to BIOS upgrade the 32Gb limit)

    What make/model is your motherboard?

dont think its possible to update so it gets rid of the hdd limit so i think you may need a new mainboard

    abit nf7 v2.0, noice board:)
(you'll prolly need new ram for it & possibly a new processor though)

it might be worth checking out the hard drive's manufacturers website for tools...
i remember trying to get a 10gb drive to work in a p133, downloading some app from the quantum website worked for me in the end.

There is also the option of buying a cheap PCI IDE controller card.

In any event I'd check for an upgrade for your board on the off chance it might be possible for your model.

Also if you don't require the drive to be available at boot time you could disable detection of it in the BIOS and use software detection of it in your OS (XP, 2k and Linux should do this with no problems) instead.

That's a few examples of them. I run Win2k and Linux off an onboard version of the Highpoint ones. Havn't had any problems with them.

They are usually ATA133 or ATA100.
