    Hi,

I was just wondering if anywone could tell me what sort of minimum system setup you would need to run a dvd rom drive.
I'm asking cos i have a cdrw drive and need another drive for on-the-fly copying and because a dvd drive is only €10 or €15 more expensive thought that it might be an option.

    Would be for a P2 350 with 512mb ram,

    Thanks

If it's just for pure file transfer anything with an IDE controller which supports one of the modes of the drive.
So pretty much anything that's still in use today.

You don't mention DVD playback in your post, but if you intend to use it for that, you'd need a P3 500 minimum without a hardware MPEG2 decoder card, and probably a PII233 or something with one.

my gf has a p2 (think its) about 300-350 and it runs dvd/windows xp without a bother.

Yeah, I have an old p2 that I was playing dvds on. Ran a bit jerky on 300mhz so I overclocked it up to 333 and things improved alot. I can imagine 350mhz doing it well.
