This announces a discussion in Ireland of EU ministers on transfrontier TV. Hopefully something will happen.

My petition on the subject on 17 february was warmly received by the Committee of Petitions at the EU Parliament. Because this is a lame duck parliament and because Parliament cannot initiate policy, there seems to be little that can be done until after the election. However, with the support of the Chairman of the Committee, Roy Perry, I have requested a meeting with the 2 responsible Commissioners, Reding and Bolkestein.

5 minutes before I gave my powerpoint presentation, an army of 5 Sky executives + laptop marched into the room. They couldn't get their laptop to work and gave a verbal presentation, full of irrelevant points, such as the number of channels on Sky and the fact that Sky News was not encrypted. They also maintained that the reason for them not selling subscriptions across borders was purely commercial and nothing to do with copyright laws. This is clearly incorrect, given the UK/Ireland situation.
