I think it's time to gather together a comprehensive list of tournaments in the Dublin casinos if possible.
The casinos themselves don't seem to bother keeping their sites up to date so I was thinking of emailing them for details and maybe we could have a sticky of each days tournaments. Between us we probably have a good idea:-

    Monday
Merrion - Freebie NL Holdem qualifier for Tuesday (9 p.m.??)
    Fitz - €100 freezeout NL Holdem (9.30 p.m.)

    Tuesday
Merrion - €100 NL Holdem Freezout (time??)
    Fitz - Draw Poker (price/time??)

    Wednesday
Merrion - €20 rebuy (time etc.??)
    Fitz - €20 rebuy (max 3 rebuys or 2 rebuys + topup) (9.30 p.m.)

    Thursday
    Merrion - ???
Fitz - Now let me see, not sure about this one.

    Friday
    Merrion - €25 rebuy NL Holdem (8.30 p.m. ??)
Fitz - €50 (max one rebuy or topup) NL Holdem (9.30 p.m.??)

    Saturday
    Merrion - ????
    Fitz - Omaha/Holdem (buy-in/structure/time???)

    Sunday
    Merrion - €10 rebuy?? (8 p.m.??)
    Fitz - €20 rebuy (max 3 rebuys or 2 rebuys + topup) (9.30 p.m.)

    Sepcials

    Last Thursday of Month
    Fitz - €250+€20 NL Holdem Freezout (9.30 p.m.)
Fitz - Free €15 rebuy qualifier for above (6.30 p.m.)
Fitz - Possible €30 Single Table qualifiers for above.

    First Sunday of Month
    Fitz - €40 rebuy (max 3 rebuys or 2 rebuys + topup) (9.30 p.m.)

Now if we can fill in the blanks and keep it up to date we have a nice handy reference. So any blanks fillers available?

    Monday
Merrion - starts at any time between 9pm and 9.30 pm depending on the amount of people signed up.

    Tuesday/Weds
Fitz - I thought that Wednesday was the 5 card draw JJ or better?

    Saturday
Fitz - I think its €15 euro NL Hold'Em, unlimited rebuys. Could be limited to 3 rebuys+topup

I think the Fitz has all of its nightly tournaments starting at a stated 9.30pm although they can change this depending on the number of people that show up.

Apart from the Merrion or the Fitzwilliam are there any other casinos/clubs that play Hold'Em? The Colossus off Camden Street only has Brag afaik.

I have played Wednesdays and I'm fairly sure it's identical to Sundays bar the first Sunday of the month.

Might play in the 20 quid game tonight in the Fitz, though I prefer to limit myself to Monday and Thursday nights only, as otherwise I'm spending half my week in the Fitz and thats not a good sign hahahah...

    DeV.
ps: next time at the Merrion on Monday I'm only playing the free in... screw the re-buys cos the ticket is only worth 100 notes so whats the point in blowing 40+ euro on trying to win it.

I'm heading for the Merrion tonight. Mark from Emuse was telling me they get 6 tables most wednesdays so I'll give it a shot for a change.
This is because I can't make the Fitz tomorrow. I'm not going all high rollin' just yet.

How did the wednesday €20 night go last night?

I ended up not going. Dunno if Muso went to the Merrion...

I'm heading to the fitz tonight but I'll start a separate thread for that.

Went to the Merrion with a mate from work. Wasn't at the races at all. Went out at about 12. But since myself and my mate split our winnings I was very glad to get into work this morning and find he finished 2nd. €260 smackers for me.
Very good crowd in the Merrion. Any tournament winner on Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday gets into their WSOP tourney by the way, as well as winning money. Thursday evenings from 9 they run qualifiers for the WSOP tourney so I reckon I may pay a visit there more often.

    Hi Dave

There seems to be some interest in a €50 freeze out tournament. As you know we are all very new to the game. The idea of dishing out €100 is still a bit disconcerting, but at the same time most of us prefer the style of play in freeze outs. Would there be any chance of the Fitz trying out a tournie along these lines. I’m sure a good few people from boards would be interested. If you want we could set up a poll to gauge interest on boards, I know you would want more than boards players there but you might be surprised at how many there are. And besides, I think whatever you do there will be takers.

    Hi Mr. Pudding,

I think a poll would be a great idea, give us some feed back on what changes, in any, we can make to the tournament schedule. With regard to freez outs, I agree that the style of play is generally easier to guage and is of a better standard. I was not 100% clear on what you you were suggesting - were you suggesting a 50 Euro freez out instead of a 100 euro freezout ?

    Cheers
    David

    Dave

I don't think it would be viable to replace the 100 game with a 50 game. I'm sure the regulars would have a thing or 2 to say. What I would like to see is a 50 game at some other time. I know the times are tight as you are already pretty busy with tournies. At the same time, I feel that a €50 freeze out would be a nice game for n00bs to take their game up a level. I think that interest would be strong.

I agree with Mr. Pudding here. I find re-buy games to be an annoyance, invariably you run up against players willing to re-buy as many times as it takes and while some may be able to adjust their game to suit that I always seem to find myself running scared until the freeze-out. I'd love to play the €100 game but €100 is just too much cash for me to drop on something that would frankly just be a learning experience for me, whereas €50 would be the perfect amount. Its enough cash to make a decent prize fund and ensure you get serious players at the game while still being low enough to encourage participation from learners.

I enjoy playing in the Thursday game. I kinda have a sentimental attachment to it as it was my first poker game and I won a ticket. But, as I learn more it annoys me more. I find it can be really difficult to play. I go into the Thursday game with an absolute spend limit of €30, typically I will only spend 10 or 20. This makes it difficult. Some of the guys there are will to spend over €100. I think the Thursday game is good for your first experience playing in a club, it is also good for learning poker after the freeze out. But to be honest I would rather pay €50 for entry to a freeze out where you can play your game from the get go and not be fighting off maniacs going all in with 72o causing you to fold your marginal hands.

I know the casino likes people to rebuy but like I say I have an absolute limit. Going on past spend the casino would get more money out of me with a €50 freezeout game than they would in a month of Thursday games. Talking to a lot of my friends I see that I am not the only one playing this way. The fact is I will not put a lot of money into a game where I might win a ticket to a tournie where I might win some cash.

Just to reiterate, I don’t really hate the Thursday game, I will still play it and mostly enjoy it, but, I would prefer to spend the money in a freeze out. Personally I would probably limit my Thursday spend to €10 and play in the €50 freezeout (if there was one.) All in all a net gain for the casino.

    Hi Mr. P

I cannot argue with any of the points you raised regarding the Thursday 'Free' entry tournament. It is manic to say the least until after the re-buys stop.

I will talk to Luke about having a 50 Euro Freez out, it would help if there was some way of guaging the real level in interest in such a game - and when would be a good time to hold it - I would suggest Friday evening at 6.15pm - how would that suit people ????

Answers on a post card please :)

Obviously the more feedback I have the stronger the argument I can put forward.

    Cheers
    David

Some more early evening games would definately be a good addition, I think the business league showed that people are quite willing to pop in after work and a have a game of poker. It would make a welcome alternative to going to the pub! A few deal for yourself medium stakes games of an evening would certainly see me in the fitz a lot more.

Personally I think the best place to put a €50 freezeout would be as a replacement for the €20 + three rebuy game on a wednesday or a sunday. I just think two identical nights in any given week is a bit of a waste. If there was a €50 freezeout I'd be there every week, I just love freezeouts but €100 is a bit of a stretch cash wise to be a regular at.

Dave welcome to boards. I started this thread because I wanted a good list of tournaments including the one-off specials like your €40 rebuy on the first sunday of the month. Can you put these on your website? Another example would be the free €15 euro rebuy qualifier at 6.30 on the last thursday of the month.
My compliments on the website by the way. Far superior to the Merrion's site.

    Hi Musician,

I will up date the web site with these two tournies, it might be next week before I get to it. I have also spoken to Luke regarding a 50Euro freez out and he seems to think that it is a good idea.

    Cheers

    Hi Guys,

I forgot to mention that Luke is starting a new Free Entry Tournament exactly like the Thursday one on Sunday the 28th March at 6.30pm (Re-Buys are 10 Eruo each). The winners of this Tournament get a seat into the Grand Final on the 22nd of April, the winner of which goes on to play in the World Series in Las Vegas in May.

    Cheers
    David

I played in the Free Entry Tournament last night, there were three tables, and three tickets up for grabs. Unfortunately I came 4th but it was my own fault, I played with a pair of fives in the hole - I still can't believe I did that - so I'll have to go back in next Sunday.

I'm sure I'll see some of you then.
    Cheers
