i had a plumber doing some work and he had to reroute some pipes from the hot water cylinder . since then the hot water pressure has been terrible and what sounds like water hammer on some of the hot lines .
on b & q s advice page it talked about the hot line and vent line (gravity feed). do these have too be sloping away from the tank to prevent air locks.
hopeto have the answers before he comes back to do the 2nd fix..

also does anyone have any thoughts on an insulated cylinder as opposed to an unsulated one. (pros/cons)

    Insulated good.
    Uninsulated - very, very bad.

A lagging jacket can pay for itself inside 6 months. This is a real no-brainer.

He probably didn't bleed the system after he was finished if he's coming back. It should be fine when he's finished.

More like 6 weeks or in the case of some ex-flat mates of mine who would leave the immersion on all day and night, 6 days.

Sounds like air, lots of it. He should have it properly bled next time he calls

Don;t let him leave till you have ran all the taps & are satisfied with the result.

It doesn't "get better after a while". - in case he tried that!

Get a lagging jacket, & put the immersion on a timer. Superglue the timer so it cannt be put on consttant!

Have the immersion temperature set below 70 deg. Pref 66 deg. Actually fcuk 'em let them have a cold shower............
