Anyone know where I can get one in Dublin SE? I presume this is far too technical for CompuStore.

I only actually know one person who ever damaged computer hardware with static (and he's the dark destroyer of tech and would have found another way to damage it anyway). And I know a _lot_ of people who have done a _lot_ of computer/equipment work.

If you're doing a lot of computer maintenance/building or are working with sensitive electronic equipment then a strap is worthwhile otherwise simple stuff like touching the back of the PSU before unplugging the PC will do.

Maplin or Peats will no doubt have what you're looking for. Dunno where else.

yeah like leeroy said if you just leave the psu pluged in but not on and just touch the frame of the case before touching any hardware will get rid of any electrical charge.

I don't want to be picky or anything, but is Blanchardstown in Dublin SE?

Maplin or Peats will take me hours to get to so I'd rather not.

I'm building a PC from scratch. I suppose I can just plug in the PSU and touch it.

If you're in the city centre at all, I bought a Belkin one in http://www.itdirect.ie/ on Parliament Street for under €6.

    Any earthed surface should suffice.

In most modern houses the radiators are fully earthed.

Why not just go for the quick & cheap solution. strip a wire and either wrap it around your wrist (copper isn't advisable) and attach the other end to either your radiator (all are earthed btw) or the case when plugged in. You could even be fancy and attach the wire to a metal watch or some such...

Go on, be a cheap bum like me.
