Sky problem with Irish credit cards...

    Hi all,

Got home last night to find an invoice from Sky for 2 months service, along with an invoice charge of 5.08eur. Usually they bill my credit card. 30 minutes on the phone to Sky and then BOI led me to sending this annoyed mail to Sky. Anyone else experienced this?

    Hi there,

Normally you debit my credit card each month. This has worked fine for over 3 years. However, You have just sent me an invoice for 2 months service charge plus 5.08eur invoice admin charge.

I called Sky and was told that there was "some problem" with the "Irish banks" regarding credit card expiry dates. However the person I was speaking to was puzzled that I should be affected since my card expired in November (and was replaced) and the last payment was made in January. So, I again supplied my credit card details and while on the phone the payment went through.

I asked whether I might get the invoice charge back and was told that I could not, and I was told that Sky could not explain what the failure was (more accurately... did not know). I would need to contact my bank.

So... I called my bank to complain. They immediately... practically before I finished speaking... started telling me that Sky changed their credit card debiting system 6 weeks ago so that users would now need to re-authorise the use of their cards following their expiry... and that I should expect to receive a latter saying same. They also told me that Sky is implying in the letter that the Irish banks are to blame whereas they say the fauly lies entirely with Sky.

Obviously I am not very happy with this, and would like to be re-imbursed for the 5.08eur charge.

If you maintain that the fault lies with the Irish banks, then I would like a very detailed explanation of the problem, so that I can take it back to my bank, and consider what action to take next.

    Best regards,
    ==================================

    Ix

I got the same letter yesterday but my CC had expired at end January. I arranged to make the payment for the two months owed over the phone. They immediately removed the €5.08 charge and are sending me a new direct debit form.

    I got the letter also.

When I rang sky they said it was related to the expiry date on my card even thought they had taken out 4 months subs after the card expired.

gave them new expiry date and asked them specifically to remove invoice admin charge (€5.08) - everything ok.

seems like they are mow doing some checking on expiry dates

The admin charge should be dropped. At the end of the day a quick 'You are not happy and may cancel you sky sub' will get them to drop the admin charge.

    Thanks guys,

I must be too friendly on the phone.

I'll wait a few days to see if I get a response to my e-mail before I call them again.

same thing happened to me, got the invoice, was gonna wait till monday to ring sky, then my sky digital gets cut off completely, so i ring sky ask them whats going on, they take my CC details but the card dosnt go through! I ring AIB , they tell me the card is fine, and that sky havent even attempted to charge my card since the end of january, i ring sky again, tell them, they try the card again but it still dosnt work. At this stage i dont have a clue what the problem could be cause sky are telling me the authorization fails, while aib are saying sky are not even attempting to debit my card..... im very pissed off.

    Hi,

FYI, just to let you know this is still happening - my father got a letter from Sky saying the credit card payment was rejected. He rang VISA and, as per previous posting, they said that it was Sky's problem and that he wasn't alone. This went back and forth and Sky have now cut him off and are looking for an admin charge!

What are Sky at? How common is this? Has anyone got the admin charge dropped refunded?

    Cheers,
    Colm
