I have a free to view card.
The original got lost in the post so a replacement was sent out by FREE2VIEW.
When I received the card from FREE2VIEW it was selfactivating
The original has now arrived and I was wondering will this card also work.
Can I give it to my friend who has an Irish box.

If a card is reported as lost it is usually deactivated so it most likely will not work. No harm in trying it in your friends digibox, just make sure that there is no phone line connected.

how can it be deactivated if it was never inserted into a DIgibox.

Not exactly sure of the exact technical reason but I would think that each card has a unique key which sky can turn in or off in their database.. If the card's key is off it will not decrypt anything.

As I said, there is no harm in trying.

AFAIK It will only self activate to the box it was paired to so try it on the original box first and let us know what happens!!! :):):)

I got a replacement FTV card and it was able to be activated in the same box and then I could use it in any box. This was when it was being run by the BBC.

Each card has to be periodically sent a new key. To deactivate a card it is simply never sent any more new keys.

This is why an unused card may need to be in the slot up to 24hrs to "reactivate" as after a week (perhaps) it will not have a valid key any more.

Note if you watch Stanice or some other channel on a transponder with no Sky package channels your card never gets a key and "expires" till refreshed.

If you can get more than the now/next using the arrow keys, the transponder has the Sky "carosel" with keys. Probabily.

Any truth in the rumour that FTV cards will be made available again for around GBP£ 47 in the near future. Saw this on another satellite website today. Has anyone else heard something similar ?

So oconnorw what happened? I find sometimes people ask a question but never bother to tell us the out come. Sometimes people go to great lenghts to be helpful but never hear again from the person who asked the question.
    :confused::confused::confused:

I do not want to risk putting the card in my box in case I end up with nothing.
I will try it in another box and let you know.
Expect an answer in about one week.
    Thanks eyeryone for the info.

Yes a dilema but I still think it needs the original box it was paired to to be activated and then it will work in any box.
Maybe you should be happy with one working FTV card but interesting if you are a gambler to see what happens.
    Let us know,tnx.
