Not sure if this was posted previously........

    from http://www.corkcorp.ie/news/index.html
Cork City Council commissioned PA Consulting Group (“PA”) to undertake an Information Technology and Telecommunication Study (“CITTS”) for the Cork City region. The Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources funded CITTS under the National Development Plan.

The main objectives of the study are to:
    1. Outline how the external connectivity of Cork city to international broadband systems can be maximised, and
    2. Define and focus on the city’s role and opportunities within national and European eCommerce development
The provision of high quality ICT services is vital to the economic and social prosperity of Cork City. This report focuses on developing an ICT strategy for Cork City set in the context of local and national strategies and the development of the Cork City Metropolitan Area Network (“CCMAN”), which will provide high speed connectivity on a 61km ring around Cork City.

CITTS identifies ten actions to exploit the potential of ICT and broadband for the benefit of all stakeholders within Cork City.

The actual report is available in .PDF from http://www.corkcorp.ie/services/depts/CITTS_Final%20Report_240204.pdf Note that the URL contains a *blank* and may cause problems when linking, if so go to from http://www.corkcorp.ie/news/index.html and follow the link from there

Guy's, read this, its bulky, but it is worth it.
Most consultants reports are filled with twaddle, this goes straight to the point, no holds barred.
    Excellent report.

For the Danish government, it is a policy aim that Denmark should be an IT nation where
the maximum number of citizens has access to the Internet. Currently, at least 95% of the
Danish population have Internet access. ISDN is included under TDC’s (Denmark’s
largest telecommunications provider) universal service obligation. Thus, it should be
possible for all subscribers to have an ISDN connection.
As part of this policy, the
government has brought out a proposal for a modernised home computer scheme and tax
exemption for data communication paid for by the employer. The purpose is to create
greater flexibility through more teleworking and thereby promote both high and broad
competences in the Danish workforce. The home computer scheme gives the employee
the right to a tax allowance of up to €470 each year against the cost of having a computer
made available at home by his/her employer. The scheme requires the employer to
contribute 25% of the costs. In addition, data communications access paid for by the
employer will be tax free, provided the employee has access to the employer's network
    from home
