Zalman CPU coolers

I'm trying to make my PC as quiet as possible and have succeeded in all but one thing, my CPU cooler. It's a Coolermaster Aero 7, a good cooler but gives off a whine when running at half speed which is what i'm running it at now. Can't bear it at all any higher.

I've been looking at the Zalman cnps7000a-cu but it's 773g and a bit worried that it will, well fall off considering that it's only being held on by clips (Socket A). The Coolermaster is 550g by comparison.

Anyone have any experience with mounting that cooler on a Socket A MB?

For the Zalman 7000a-cu the cooler is screwed into a bracket that has to be attached by removing the MB, not the most user friendly cooler to install be a very quite and effective cooler.

I wouldn't worry about the weight as its screwed into position it will be very secure.

Mounting the cooler is a bit of a pain but can be done in 5 - 10 minutes.

I aggree the Coolermaster Aero 7 is a noisy MF.

    Thanks joePC

Check to make sure the cooler will fit your motherboard, there have been some supprises....... like the fact that it doesent fit the NF7 !!

Also the 7000Alcu is lightly, cheaper, and performs almost the same as the 700cu........ thats prob the one id get. For a quiet PC thats definetly the cooler to be looking for anyway.

    Thanks lads.

Just checked the compatibility list and my motherboard, an Epox 8RDA+ is compatible but the clips need to be cut off. I'm gonna see what that means before I go and buy it.

It means that it will not be usable with the amd 64 bit platform. That was the very reason that I didn't get the Epox or the Abit NF7 mobo at the time. The HSF is the best piece of hardware I have ever bought though :)

Well got my Zalman cnps7000a-cu, for my cpu and the Zalman ZM80C-HP for my 9700pro, and I'm so happy with the results.

Adding them to my Antec Sonata means that any fan in the case is only just audible. And the CPU temps are down from 43C to 34C. The hard-drive and spinning DVD drives are the only loud things left in my comp but I can live with that. :p

Highly recommend them, and HiTiDE too, got the coolers 20 hours after I ordered them!

Was figuring out why you didn't mention the HSF on the northbridge. Just looked up a picture of the mobo and it looks like there is no fan :D

Yep no fan, big heatsink though, almost big enough to block the gpu heatsink.

Where is a good place to get northbridge heatsinks? ... I have a intel 875p board and it has a (sometimes) annoying heatsink +fan on the northbridge ... I was thinking of a passive heatsink and a fanmate +quiet 80mm fan pointed at it...
