Windows Media Player 9 - Codecs

I recently tried to play a few .avi files using Windows Media Player 9. But when the player tries to play the file is says "Error Downloading Codec". It then plays the file, but with sound only, it does not show the video part of it.

I've tried going onto the MS site and downloading and installing a codec installation package, but it still has the same problem.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    First try the divx package.
    http://www.divx.com/divx/?src=toptab_divx_from_/index.php

if that dosn't work google for the k-lite codec package.

if you search for Codecs in kazaa there are plenty of files where all the most frequently used ones are bundled into one program... look for divx and nemo especially...

seeing as something crazy like 3 out of every 4 executable found on kazaa contain viri, thats not such a hot idea imo.

google for the k-lite codec pack if you have trouble playing any more files.
