Bologna and Rome

    Hi all,

I'm heading over to Rome (via Bologna) in about two weeks (sort of a spur of the moment decision, have holidays to take, just didnt know what to do with them :) ).

    Anyway a few questions:

    1. Cheap accommodation. Preferably a room (as opposed to a Dorm).
Anyone know of a cheap hotel (dont care about stars) or B&B? In Bologna or Rome.

    2. Transport from Bologna to Rome (trains?).

    3. Cost of living? Eating out etc... about how much should I budget for each day, not including going out at night etc.

    4. maps / guides : can anyone recommend a good guidebook / map of bologna and rome? preferrably cheap (yes, I am on a budget). I'm most interested in ancient history (hell, I spent 6 years learning latin and roman history... about time I saw the place!!!). I dont need a road map as I cant drive and so it'll be walkies for me (and public transport of course).

    thanks.

    hi,
i flew into rome and booked accomadation at airport tourist office. staff are very helpful and have lists of hotels based on location, price, etc. process takes but minutes. i booked a 3 star in center location for 45 euros p.n, double room. good quality.

there are regular trains from bologna to rome about 40 euros return.

eating out is lot cheaper than ireland .

there can be huge queues for collesium and sistine chapel. we queued 3 hours to see sistine chapel...............be early, be first!

    enjoy.
