Worst Special Effects?

Have you ever watched a movie and thought that the special effects were awful? I'm not talking about dodgy B-Movies from the 50s and 60s. I'm talking about movies in the last 10 years.

I was watching Air Force One last night on RTE. The scene at the end where the plane crashes and cartwheels across the ocean looks absolutely awful.

And who can forget the surfing scene in the last Bond movie?

Post your worst special effects here!

    - Dave.

Godzilla - being chased by the attack helicopters in NYC, very poorly done.

    Spawn.
They spent all their effects budget on making the cloak look amazing, so when it came time to do a CG Devil, they just decided to let someone loose with Deluxe Paint 3.

All the special effects in Buffalo Soldiers. I understand it was a relatively low budget film, but that's no excuse. They were terrible.

I remember that Airforce One special effect when it first came out... Everyone thought it was amazing.

Worst special effects in a movie ever has to go to the last James Bond movie where Pierce Brosnan is surfing the ice with the parachute, it was terrible, awful, SHÍT

I was watching Air Force One last night and the scene where Air Force One went into the sea was poorly done. They tried to make it look too spectacular and it ended up looking a bit animated.

    Jaws has to win.
Not the first one, the one with Dennis Quaid and the "underwater city"

There's this bit where it's supposed to look like the shark is swimming towards the control room and it looks like they just zoom in on this cardboard cutout.
    Absolutely awful.

Dunno, I thought it retained the feel of the comic book drawings while being live-action.

LoL......I think it's Jaws 3D, Micheal Caine is in it too. Nobody has ever seen it, when Micheal Caine was interviewed about it a couple of years ago, he had never seen it either!

    That's the one! Unbelieveably brutal.

There was also the Bruce Lee movie (the one where he died half way through) where they decided to keep going on the movie.

There was this bit where they had a shot of 'Bruce Lee's' reflection in a mirror.
But seeing as they didn't have his face anymore, they stuck a picture of Lee's face onto the mirror and had a guy sit so that the picture was superimposed over this guy's head in the reflection.
You could see the body moving but the face stayed in the same position!!!!!

    You're half-right.
It is Jaws3D, but Michael Caine was in Jaws 4, which is set in Australia.

The only 3D film worth its salt is Spy Kids 3D.

Jaws 4 like ObeyGiant said. And I've seen it, It was on one of the English language Japanese stations when I was over there. Awful crud. RTE showed Jaws 3(dee!) about twelve years back. Terrible stuff as well but not as bad as the bit where the shark gets killed in 4.

I'll add the bit in Waterworld where they go up in the balloon. When I saw it in the cinema I remember thinking that that was where they finally ran out of cash.

I can forgive Logan's Run. Jenny Agutter looks nice in it. The crap robot thing does leave something to be desired though.

At least Logan's run had a decent enough story to make up for the poor effects....and Triple X was just cheesy more than anything else ;)

The worst slip up I've seen in recent times was in Episode II during the battle between the insectoids and the Jedi. Watch when Anakin hops onto that rhino thing and the camera follows him, the rider is obviously computer generated and the rhino looks completly out of place with the background. And it happens again when padme going along in the chariot. In a film that was so top-heavy with very complex cgi scenes, its easy to see how the old quality control missed that one.

I remember the Air Force one plane crash scene alright. It's really terrible

How about in Deep Blue Sea - the one with LL Cool J (nuff said!) . It's the one where the sharks are in the enourmous offshore research facility. At one point a shark comes through a giant window, grabs LL CooL J (i think) and starts shaking him around. I swear i could nearly see the puppeteers hand coming out of the shark's rear while shaking a little Action Man figure around in his mouth. The CG is absolutely TERRIBLE.

How about this for a quality poster (NOT!) :

The final scene where there is a hospital. The camera starts at ground level
    then pans up.
Its actually the Civic Offices in Dublin (front building to Salt and Pepper shakers)
    - they painted on about 50 more floors.

I dont know if any more parts were shot in Dublin.

A bad FX's in a film that threw me cos rest of film was so outstanding was
"Master at arms" when they cut the rope to let the sailor get washed away - he loked so false on the blue screen wave.

    “Roll it back”
