Film Suggestions

Okay... I only recently - well a few months ago - started collecting DVD's and I started by getting most of my favourite films. I buy a few every month.

I'd like to start getting good films I haven't seen.

So I was hoping some of you movie buffs could give me some suggestions. I like all genres of film, except girly films obviously, and stupid American-teen-road-highschool-bullshít movies. Although these are occasionally mildly amusing, I don't desire to own copies of them.

So, please give me your suggestions for really good films.

On another note - aside from Army of Darkness, are the Evil Dead movies out on DVD?

I know there are ALOT of good films and thanks for the suggestions.
I'd just like people to list their favourite films really, or films you think are essential for any collection.

    Senor_Fudge - I always check extra vision out on their 2 for €20 offers or 2 for €25 and have picked up a few nice titles. Essential films I have thus far bought are;

    The Godfather Trilogy
    Pulp Fiction
    Reservoir Dogs
    From Dusk Til Dawn
One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
    Dog Day Afternoon
    FOTR and TTT extended editions
    Taxi Driver
    Easy Rider
    City Of God
    Dirty Harry
    The Deerhunter
    The Matrix and Reloaded

Maybe that gives you an idea of what I'm into. I intend to start building up my Western collection as well as all Bruce Lee films. Also have to get the Aliens collection.

    - I would say my taste is similar enough to yours by your list. These might be worth looking at;

    Happiness
    Amores Perros
    Vulgar
    The Acid House

    Cheers

    shrek
    toy story 1 & 2

    monster inc.
    star wars 1 & 2

Yes, and you can get them in Xtravision as part of the 2 for €25 deal.
    Good value indeed.

    Miller's Crossing
    Get that, it's utterly essential.

    Other classics:
    Das Boot
    Leon
    The Elephant Man

Actually, Here is an up to date list of my DVD collection. I Vouch for most of the films on this list to be great, though there are quite a few silly horror films that are just bad in a 'so bad they're good' kinda way, which mightn't tickle your fancy.
And there's the odd turky in there too, but let's not talk about that, ok?

    Back to the Future trilogy
    28 days later
    Ring (Japan)
    X-Men 1 & 2
    Spiderman
    Trainspotting

What's the story with that dead cheap Donnie Darko DVD with no extras?

    Too lazy to list films...

[edit]For some reason it's leaving some of the films out. Also I didn't realise I had 330 dvds. :dunno: and what's worse is I still have a massive wish list. [/edit]

    Buy Thursday.

It's quite possibly the best film ever made and in no way crap, useless, a waste of everyone's time and an abomination against the very medium of film itself.

    Honest.

Had a hunt in Xtra Vision last night, and couldn't find any... ah well will keep looking. Added another 2 to my Bruce Lee Collection anyway.

I'm a fan of really bad horror films so no worries there.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Just need to get myself a few grand together and I'll have a great collection :)

CDWOW don't seem to have a great selection really. For example they don't have The Big Lebowski.
Are DVDsoon reliable? I've only ever ordered through play.com and cdwow.

CD Wow aren't really that great, to be honest. I generally just stick with play.com myself, they usually have what I want... Which more than often, is something rather obscure.

They've also got quite a lot of great films in their 3 for £20 offer, so you really can't go too wrong.

DVDsoon are very good, however a couple of points to note:
    - If you order multiple items they are all sent together, so if you order 3 and only 2 are in stock you will have to wait til the third one comes in until they send it.
    - They bill you from the moment of order and not the sent date.

If an item is out of stock, from my experiences, you could be waiting months to get it. If it's in stock they'll have it sent out to you very fast. Usual delivery time is about 1 week and delivery is free world wide.

As for CD-Wow, no they don't have a huge selection, but it's nearly always worth checking with them before ordering from play as 9/10 they're cheaper. Well, they were before the court cases, dunno how they compare now.
DVDsoon are often cheaper than play aswell.
