    Right Lads,

Just looking at getting battle royale on play, but they've got 2 versions. I was planning on getting the region 0 special edition by tartan but I also seen they've got a region 2 Collectors edition (the plot thickens). I can see any difference in features, anybody got either of them. Opinions preferences? Im already well familiar with the movie its just the transfer and the extras Im interested in.

    Cheers

    Chris

Ooh region 0 (all regions). First time I've seen one of these with anything half-decent on them. I'd say get that if there's no major differences.

    Brilliant extras on it altogether.

    Well reconmended.

Normal version is in Dolby Digital (2.0) Stereo
NTSC version is in Dolby Digital (5.1)
and Special Edition adds DTS if thats your thang.

Special edition also has alternative ending.

Personally, the one I'd buy (if you can ever get it) is AngelWhores 'Special' Special Edition

I think this is the same version I've got in the tin box set.

There are indeed some brilliant extras on it, especially the hilarious 'Birthday Version'.
Some lovely 5.1 surround, and the picture quality is certainly brilliant.

    dvdcompare.net says:
OVERALL: Draw - This is a hard one:

Both of the Korean releases, and the new DTS Tartan 2-disc release feature a DTS track, the Director's cut and nice extras (in the "Starmax" -version, there are no English subtitles on the extra-features) . Note however the extras for both the Korean release are identical and are both different to the UK extras. You can also check out the original 2-disc set from Tartan which does not include the DTS track but has a nice tin case and some collectible items such as cards, booklet etc.
The Japanese release Also includes a bevy of unique extras, however this version contains no English subtitles whatsoever.

From an English subtitles point of view the original Tartan release has dreadful burnt in, hard to read subtitles and the Universe subtitles although removable have grammatical and spelling errors throughout. However the UK Re-released NTSC 5.1 Version from Tartan and the two 2-disc verisons have removable clear, grammar and spelling error free subtitles. In the Korean "Starmax version", the subtitling for the scenes that were added for the Special Version is downright wretched, and due to the font used can be a little hard to read at times. The Cream Korean release has a better font, but overall the Tartan 2-disc subtitles seem to be the best and most accurate.

The choice is yours as to which verion to get, fans might consider both the Korean and Uk releases for the extras, whichever one you buy AVOID the original Theatrical Tartan UK Release.
