    Warning Linux Newbie Here!

I have a machine with 2x80GB drives, I partitioned the 2nd drive with into 2x20GB blocks and left a 40GB block unused

I already have W2k Server installed on the C (first drive) and planned to install RH onto the 40GB unused space. I ran the install and it didnt give me the option to dual boot, just to linux. It runs through the startup sequence and "halts" at a prompt

    localhost local domain login:

It will not accept the administrator user or password. I have a different PC with RH7.3 loaded on it without any grief but its just a single drive

When I boot the PC now I just get a prompt

    GRUB

and have to use the boot floppy to get it to run the startup sequence.

How do I get W2K back as well, is it the emergency floppy root for that?

In the install process you should have come across a screen discussing partitioning. What option did you choose?

It runs through the startup sequence and "halts" at a prompt ... It will not accept the administrator user or password.

You used 'root' and not 'Administrator', right? Did you set up an ordinary user in the install process?

When I boot the PC now I just get a prompt

Hmmm. Try hitting TAB or the up and down arrows? If 'linux' comes up, hit return.

How do I get W2K back as well, is it the emergency floppy root for that?

What's an "emergency floppy root"? You can get Windows back by rewriting your MBR, but then you'll need to reinstall Linux.

Put the Windows 2000 CD into the drive and choose Repair. Choose your Windows installation and logon. Now type 'fixmbr' and 'fixboot'.

Automatically format the blank section of the drive

tried root, administrator & the user i get up but still just verisons for that

    localhost localdomain prompt

Sorry I meant to say route rather than root

You'd probably be better off with a later version of Red Hat like 8/9 or Fedora Core. Or Mandrake.
