No it's bull, they have no reason to promote anyone, and yet they do. I have no problem with them being involved with whoever they like. "Bands who don't deserve this opportunity"

So what, they want people who have helped out and who contribute to the scene, whether it be musically or not.

Sounds like a begrudger to me (thanks rosanna) and even if what they pasted is true, and it probably is, who said Gigsmart were there to put out everyband that wanted a gig.

Oh by the way Thomas, give me a fucking gig*

    *no seriously....

gigsmarts mission statement buddy. a bit of a contradiction to what that post on that thread says

    Background
Based on the increased number of bands now circulating the live music scene in Dublin an opportunity exists to create a network of musicians and industry representatives, that will, through a coordinated effort share, costs, equipment, experience and expertise to organise and improve live shows in Dublin city and elsewhere around the country.

    Philosophy
The GigSmart initiative will be run by musicians and interested parties on a voluntary basis. No GigSmart activities will be run in an effort to gain profit for any single individual. All monies earned through gigs and promotional activities will be either distributed evenly to artists/bands involved or used to secure further promotion for the benefit of bands/artists under the initiative.

    Operation of the initiative
All activities will be undertaken in an open and transparent manner, all bands/artists and other contributing parties will have equal say in any decisions that will directly effect their interests.

Records will be kept of all GigSmart initiative events, records will contain at minimum and may not be limited to the following information and will be made available to anyone who demonstrates a need or purposeful reason to view such records.
    · Venue Details, Contact names, Cost of venues,
    · List of bands/artists involved including a full profile of each artist/band.
    · List of all transactions, expenses and monies accumulated.
    · Contact list for all persons involved in organising the event.
    · All work done to promote the event, this will include any contact made with members of the media, other venues, and web communities contacted.
    · An Independent review of the event.
The GigSmart initiative, recognises, and will actively pursue a policy to ensure that no personal details/ addresses or numbers will given to any individual/organisation or body without permission being granted from the persons/organsation or body concerned.

    Organisation Structure

GigSmart will be coordinated by the founding members of the initiative
    These are:
    Trevor Mooney 087 293 46 43
    Thomas Brunkard 087 618 88 28

All bands and artists will nominate a single point of contact for the initiative.
All artists/bands involved will be expected to send a representative to the regular GigSmart meetings at least once a month to contribute to the initiative in some way that will be beneficial to the initiative as a whole. Exceptions will be made for bands that are operating outside the Dublin region.

    Responsibility
All participants under the GigSmart initiative are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and responsible manner when making representations on behalf of the initiative. Any persons deemed to be in breach of this code of conduct will no longer be included in the initiatives activities. All bands/artist will be expected to honour all commitments made, be they verbal or written agreements.

Finally GigSmart has been set up as a cooperative effort among musicians, writers and media representatives, it will not negotiate contracts with or on behalf of any band/artist/organisation or otherwise.

Doesn't say they are there to help one band, more a collective, and the money is split with the bands who play the gigs anyway, so they don't lose out. Any money that Gigsmart earn is pumped back into Gigsmart it seems, and they can do what the hell they like with it, whether it be to promote a very good band, or a number of them. It'd be quite hard to promote 100 different bands equally, and there would be little benefit.

the only way to get gigs with gigsmart is to let yourself to be known, to attend the gigs, and to hel out because it is a viluntary organisation and there is not much they can be funded by
