can i suggest www.hitide.ie for the zalman stuff they are irish and i'd prefer supporting them before overclockers because overclockers is a bitch for shipping

For silence definetly the Zalman CPU cooler (preferably 7000 series).

    For Power Supply's .......

Antec 380w Single fan (sonata PSU),
    Zalman PSU's,
    Be-quiet PSU's

If you want to try something different then you could pick up a fortron 300w/350w and mod the 120mm fan to run on 5v........... im just after getting one to try it out. There not expensive but produce alot more power than there rated for.

    Places to buy........

    www.hitide.ie
    www.pc-look.com

I find these the best, very good companies. Basicly your Northbridge fan will make more noise than these products.........next up will be hard drives, NB, GFX card, but the majour ofenders are the PSU & CPU. Good luck :) .

Thanks a lot for your recommendations guys! i think i'm gonna go with Zelman, and as fast as possible, this thing is driving me nuts! :)

My Zalman CPU fax is pretty damm sweet, but just beware of the fact that when you get a quite psu and cpu cooler, you will start to notice how noisy your gfx card and hard drives are :)

Hitides prices are cool but untill they get sorted out with credit cards they will not be getting my business.

If your buying a new one, try the segate's or samsungs for quietness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

The Seagate is starting to age a bit now, Samsung is probably a better choice

Had all the details in my head when making this very decision a few weeks ago, but they must have evaporated ;)

I went with the Samsungs anyway

    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/db.cgi?view=1&id=6996&type=6&path=14x122x308

22 dB dunno is that loud or not? I read Zalman's operate from 20-30 dB so, it must be pretty quite?

    Here's my current anti-noise rig...

    Zalman Flower Cooler
    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/db.cgi?view=1&id=5323&type=6&path=14x122x308

    Sharkoon 300W PSU
    http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/shop/db.cgi?view=1&id=7184&type=6&path=14x122x5315

My PC is now whisper quiet... next on the shopping list is a passive heatsink for my Radeon... then.... total silence ... well almost :)

    awesome!

that's exactly what i want to buy!

i read couple of reviews about Zalman Flower Cooler

but i couldn't find anything about Sharkoon, i'm interested in it, are you happy(meaning silence) with it?

I only have 2 places with fans in my pc, PSU and CPU, My vid card is old so it has passive heatsink, same with northbridge

I'm also looking for those silencing walls for attaching to the case, to make it absolutely silent.... I read a review those silencing walls, but forgot the manufacturer name and i can't find it on the net anymore :(

also getting silentdrive! to shut the hell up that clicking noise!

i wasn't kidding when i said the sound is driving me nuts :)

Yeah I'm very happy with my sharkoon PSU, I haven't tried sleeping while the PC is on since I got this PSU, but I could never sleep with my old one... must give it a go.

Funny you should mention the northbridge actually, since the fan that comes with the Zalman flower cooler is so big that you can aim it half over the cpu heatsink and half over the northbridge, then just plug out the northbridge fan, two birds with one stone :)
It cools my nForce2 northbridge well enough, I haven't had any stability problems at all.
TBH I think they should just have put a bigger heatsink on the northbridge and left out the fan... doesn't seem to run that hot anyway.
But as always, chipsets/load may differ, caution advised blah de blah.

As far as I know, Asus motherboards use a bigger heatsink, and no fan on the northbridge, so passive cooling works for northbridge.
