anyone reccomend a nice, b&b or cheapish hotel in dublin. Preferably in and around the city centre, or a short taxi ride at most.

    thanks for your time

I am trying to decide between two hotels in the city centre :Ormond Quay Hotel or Jurys Inn Custom House. Both North of the Liffey, just down the street from each other from what I can tell.
The only review I could find for the Ormond Quay was very negative, yet it's hard to tell from those things, sometimes only thre unhappy write in to complain.
Does anyone know of the reputations or neighborhoods of these two hotels? Anything you offer would be much aprreciated
    Thank you.

Stay away from Jury custom house unless you're going to a gig in the point. It's a rough area and 10-15 mins walk to the city centre proper. Beside's Jurys Inns just aren't very nice.

Don't know about the Ormond though.

A place I'd recomend would be the B&B above ONeills on Pearse St. - usually need to book a good bit in advance.

    Thanks!
I'm sitting here in the US trying to plan a holiday and just have whatever I can find on the Interent plus a map of the city. Makes it kind of hard unless one knows the area.
Regarding your B&B suggestion, I only have a small list of hotels I can chose from, it's a prepaid voucher kind of deal that I got through a package with my car rental and flight.

Of those two I'd definitely choose the Ormond. I've no idea what their service is like, but its much closer to the better night-life options. You're literally only a bridge away from Temple Bar (where you will inevitably end up), and the journey back to your hotel will be shorter and slightly safer.

Thank you so much! You don't know how much better I feel learning something first hand from someone that really knows the area. :D
That area is safe enough for a woman in her 20's, right? As long as I'm not walking alone I should be fine?

Its pretty well lit, and always busy at night. As I said, you'll walk out the door of that hotel, across a bridge and you're in temple Bar. Just bear in mind it attracts huge crowds, and quite a lot of drunken punters. You should also check a bar just down from your hotel called Sin é. Really nice atmosphere in there.

Take the usual common sense precautions and you'll be fine.

    Hope you enjoy the trip.

We aim to please - but miss frequently. :D

As therecklessone says, the Ormond is by far the better bet.

Dublin is like any big city, behave sensibly and you should be fine*.
