Can someone explain configs please.
If i write a new config, how do i make sure quake is using it. i.e. I might have 2 or 3 configs in the baseq3 dir.

Any help is appreciated.

To make Quake 3 use a config eg.Shaithis.cfg you have to type "exec Shaithis.cfg" into the console. The only config that executes automatically is autoexec.cfg. If you ever wanted to change the config that you were using just type in "exec Iamanewbie.cfg" for example

the easy and quick way to make a newbie config file is to set up all your controls, game settings, graphics options, etc thru the game menus, then type
\writeconfig <insert name here>.cfg
in the console. That will save your settings in a file called Shaithis.cfg or whatever, in the baseq3 directory.
Check the help section of www.quake.ie for other stuff

bind "mouse1" "say twent0r is l33t"


it'll really improve yer game

Load up Q3 and change it to suit yourself, fix all the settings etc.
then bring down the console and type
/writeconfig shaithis.cfg

Then to make sure it's always that one running, put a shortcut on your desktop to Quake3, and edit the command line to say :

c:\quake3\quake3.exe +exec shaithis.cfg

that will keep your config the same way you want it.

Yeah its all quite funny, and we used to pull the "unbindall" shíte on lots of huns on hun servers but considering the amount of Irish Q3 players is extremely small, cut out the shíte lads please. It would be nice for another 10 or 20 players to play regularly and maybe one or two more clans to be around.

Shaithis, just do what I was saying, change your settings to suit yourself, and then do a "/writeconfig shaithis.cfg"
then change your shortcut to say

c:\quake3\quake3.exe +exec shaithis.cfg

Otherwise, when you get into Q3, type in
"/exec shaithis.cfg"
before you play.
Like mirv said, you can leave out the "/" if you arent in a game, apparently.
